hi everyone,

so, i got my second boar at lunchtime today. let him meet Walter in the outside run and on and off for 2 hours it was new boar trying to nip Walter and Walter trying to head hump new boar. they finally settled down and as it looked like rain i moved them inside (i had completely re cleaned the inside hutch and new bedding/ bran new hides for each) still a bit of nipping going on from new boar to Walt but it seemed to settle down. they have shared veggies and there is normal squeaking coming from both but with the odd teeth chattering from Walt - Walt is popcorning around the hutch though. and it is now only sometimes in passing that they will have cross words but nothing how it was when they first went in together.

For those of you who have had lots of experience with introducing new boars to each other does this sound normal / ok? i do feel protective over Walt but he seems to have "given as good as he got" and vice versa so i presumed they are just finding out who is top dog and will settle down.

Thanks in advance ;)

(p.s Walter already is out much more rather than hiding away which he has done since i got him and has been constantly chattering since they calmed down a bit and the new boar is two weeks younger than Walt)

It sounds pretty normal to me. If you have a look at Suzygpr's boar dating thread, you will find that it takes time. http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=59233&highlight=boar+dating

Make sure that before you move both boars into their cage/hutch that you thoroughly clean everything, walls, furniture etc. and ideally rearrange what you have got. Make sure that you have everything in twos, hideys, bowls, water bottles, each item ideally spaced well away from the other same item.

thanks for the links. yes i had cleaned everything and everything inside was new bought today

sounds totally normal to me, sometimes they need to squabble it out from time to time but as long as there isn't any blood shed it normally sounds worse than it is.
Good luck!

thanks everyone! they quietened down last night - they each had their own hides, bowls but seemed happy to share a water bottle. there is still some teeth chattering once in a while and head raising from Walter but they seem ok other than that - caught them at half one this morning chatting away to each other so they cant detest each other that much!
