I have noticed fairly recently that one of my guinea pigs has developed what looks like scabs on both of their hind legs (one looking more swollen than the other). I'm really unsure of what they might be or what has caused this as some time ago I noticed a scab had formed on one of her legs and have just recently have seen that there is one on her other leg aswell. She still seems to be able to move around fine and I haven't noticed any signs of it causing her any serious problems when eating and playing around her run but I am still worried about this as it doesn't seem right at all and I wouldn't want it to cause her any problems.

I have looked around on the internet and have come across bumblefoot however, I am unsure if this is what it is. Please could someone give me a bit more information on this?

I would really appreciate it if someone could offer any advice or help on what I should do from here and what this could be and whether or not it is time to take her for a visit to the vet? Also I thought I would just note that she is getting a lot older now and is around 6 years old.

Thank you so much for any responses!

I would recommend a vet visit. Does your piggy tend to be wet often around the hind legs? Older pigs can get sores if they struggle to move easily and this could be from leaking urine (such as from arthritis or uti), with my first outbreak of ringworm Donald had several patches on his back legs, or it could be self inflicted bite marks from discomfort. A vet will be able to accurate diagnose.

Please have them vet checked, especially if there is swelling and potential infection! It is impossible for us to do more than guess wildly from just your description. You need a hands-on examination.

But it is definitely not bumblefoot, which starts as an infection of the soles of the feet from living on wire flooring, sitting in excrement or having mobility and blood circulation problems.
