Hi, this is Rochester Piggy's boyfriend. As some of you know, she is a very cautious guinea pig owner and is always ready to rush her pig to the vet if there's the tiniest thing wrong, even if there's nothing wrong. For a few months now, I've been doing the insisted-upon daily weigh ins. I'm not really sure why you have to weigh a guinea pig, but my girlfriend has taught me a lot about diet and floor time and things like that. I heard about someone named weebka who could help? She doesn't really tell me much except "please just weigh her and tell me the weight" and then she looks so relived when I tell her the weight, and sometimes she'll run to me, snatch Cali out of my arms, and start crying and telling her to not die! This lasts about 10-15 minutes and then she calms down. The other day she thought I was going to go bury Cali, when really I was just going to put Cali back in her cage! Could you please help me!

I nearly drove myself mad when I had to weigh one of my pigs daily (she had a mystery weight loss) and I don't even have any anxiety disorder.

There is really no need to weight daily unless the piggy is poorly and you are syringe feeding. Weighing to much will just cause any anxiety to get worse, I know ti is difficult as I have anxiety myself but really weighing everyday is not going to help in any way shape or form. By weighing daily you can get yourself all worried as weights can fluctuate depending on a full bladder etc....

My advice would be to weigh once a week at the same time - so say a Sunday evening a hour after their tea and record the weights.

When weighing it is the trend you are looking for to identify any weight loss. A loss of gain of 10g-40g can be the difference between a full and empty bladder. If is happens again then you start to see if there is anything wrong. For instance if I notice a weight loss of 40g on a Sunday I would be inclined to weigh again the following day to see if there is another loss. Often they will go back up again, but if they lost again the next day I would be looking to investigate further.
