Hi I had two brothers Munch and Nibble but in November Munch, who was a clever pig, passed away after treatment. I have since got a rescue pig Robin. After much gradual introductions I got them together and I actually saw Nibble popcorning. Robin is as nervous pig and Nibble was a bit territorial.
Then a couple days later some major altercation occurred and they have ignored each other ever since. Now I get teeth chattering on both sides.
I need a friend for Nibble as he is quiet and I think depressed but I don't want to take Robin back as I am attached to him, though the lady did say I could if needs be. I can't have more than 3 pigs due to time constraints. Please advise what to do ?

if you got Robin from a rescue, will they take him back. Then you can take Nibble in to be bonded. Or have Nibble neutered & pair him with a girl, after a few weeks.

I'm not an expert but I think unless blood has been drawn they may still be okay. Ignoring each other is normal as far as I can tell and my two occasionally do teeth chattering, I think since they are in the hormonal teen phase they can get moody like that. It can take some time for dominance issues to be worked through when it comes to boars and they may need more time to settle things out. Hopefully someone with more experience will have more advice for you though.

That's quite right it's only if they draw blood, should you separate. Have a look threw the forums & it will take you step by step through the bonding process. Anymore problems just post & someone will help you out. Good Luck

Be careful reaching in the cage if they are chattering (once established, it's less of an issue). Make SURE they see your hand and move it slowly. You might get a nip or bite if they are working something out or nearing a full-blown fight and you bump one in the rear where it can't see you and it thinks it's the other gp.

Point of no return I would say is if/when they BOTH bite into each on the rear rump area at the same time (they'll be standing beside each other, nose closest to each rump), then constantly spin in a circle, that lasts longer than a couple seconds or keeps happening. The entire time they are spinning, they WILL be biting hard into each other and might end up with puncture holes after the fight, which are easily hidden by their fur. Do NOT reach in with bare hands if they are fighting. They can also jump rather high, so be mindful to not lean over the cage or something. Once they break, you can split them up with a piece of cardboard. If they are at separate ends of the cage, they can be handled and carefully inspected for holes. Chances are, you won't see blood. It will scab over after a couple days. Also, a warning something like a serious fight is about to happen is if they "yawn" constantly. It looks like an innocent gesture, but if BOTH are yawning constantly, they might be getting ready to fight. IF they both yawn and then freeze and stare at each other, it's going down :(
