hi well i am new and i want to get a guinea pig but i am only 13 and i don't know if i will have time for my guinea pig and well will they be noisy because i will need to study for my exams and stuff so :'( well i have a hamster now and she is 1 year 4 months old ans well she is old but i really also want a guinea pig so what do u think i should do . can i still concentrate in my school work?\

thank you!!

I guess you have to think, they need about an hour out of their cage at the least a day, lap time, feeding them, cleaning them out etc, will you have time for all of that even with school work? Also can you afford it, they ideally need to live in pairs, then constant supply of hay, vegetables daily, bedding, vet bills etc.

Maybe if you do some research on piggies and find out everything they need it could help you decide?

Hi,

First of all welcome to the forum and well done on thinking about getting a piggie so carefully.

I don't find piggies very noisy as pets at all. It all depends on the individual animal and where you're planning to keep them.

As for school work, I'm doing a university degree at the moment but still have time for my guinea pigs. It completely depends whether you know that you will, even if you've had a busy day etc, be willing to look after your piggies. Perhaps you could get into a routine, like cleaning them out in the morning, and then playing with them when you get back in the afternoon?

If they are going to live in an outdoor hutch remember that although in the summer it's ok, in the winter you can end up standing in the freezing cold rain cleaning them out!

Like Jane said, you need really to get two piggies as they are social animals.. Also have you got anyone else in your family who is willing to help you with them, if they get ill and need taking to the vets etc?

Best of luck with your decision, and feel free to ask any other questions!

well thanks well all my family members r willing to help me because they also love animals amd they had some pets when they were my age so i also want to have pets. my dad usually cleans my hamsters cage and well feed it and my mom and older sister plays with it. and well we all have time for it somethimes we even take it to the park for it to have a little adventure!

I have all sorts of rodents and don't find it hard at all
GET A PIGIE!

Our 2 piggies were for my daughter who was 5 in April, they aren't noisy it takes about 10mins in the morning for a quick clean and feed,if it isn't raining I try to give them an hour in their run,and when the kids get home from school they have the piggies out to play for about an hour,it doesn't take a lot of time,I am absolutely hooked on the girls,Good luck and welcome

Hi, its good that you are thinking ahead about look after a guineapig, but if you are worried about having enough time to spend with your piggie, maybe you should wait until exams are over and you have a better idea of the time they take to look after and exercise?

I think you need to think long about it :) I don't find my piggie noisy ( except when he hears the rustle of veggie bags :smitten:) but it is time consuming. Maybe wait till after your exams and get your mum/Dad to get you one for doing well in your exams and studying hard ?

You seem like a very responsible person for thinking about it so carefully and asking for advice :)

Hiya ,
I'm 14 and i have 2 piggies , i spent all my money on them and spent about an hour with them a day. Piggies are great when your upset etc. lol. There's alot of costs though vet bills , hutch /cage , cage/hutch accessories , food etc. Do lots of research though before you buy!

So true about when you're upset....when I failed my driving test poor Sevi had to put up with me crying to her for ages!
