Today I went out to feed my Guinea pig when I found one dead his ear was gone and he was cold, he wasn't stone cold, there was food in the bowl so I feel it wasn't my other one. They are both the same age( 4 months ). I'm very worried as I used to have a Guinea pig that died when I got the surviving one, is there anyway I can tell if it was my surviving one? As they are outdoors we take them in every few nights and I feed them straw and veg every day before school and I give them their full food after my dinner, what gone wrong?

I'm so sorry, what a horrible shock for you. Were they inside or out? Is there any chance a predator could have got in? a rat maybe?

It is possible that he died of natural causes and because they are prey animals your other pig was trying to hide the evidence to protect himself. I think there was a thread on here a few months back about it. I know hamsters do it, it happened with one of my robos and it was really upsetting.

You say you feed them straw, do they have hay in their hutch too? they ideally need that all day as they are grazers. Do they have any dry food like pellets?

Hoya yeah they have hay dry pellets and they are outside and yes we are thinking that there might be a rat getting in as a few houses up there is chickens which are attracting rats and before we got patch and rockstar we lay down rat killer (a year before not like the day before) and cleaned it up so we feel it might have been one of them pests.

I am very sorry for your loss!

Please bring your surving piggy indoors asap! Rats kill guinea pigs. :(
