Should I be concerned, on my guinea pig's forehead is a bald spot that is a darker pinkish purple color and has a crusty ear.....15006073975751742548929.webpear15006073975751742548929.webp 15006073975751742548929.webp 1500607581620171632154.webp

It's hard to tell from photos but any balding/crustiness should always be checked by a vet as it could very well be fungal or mite related.

Either way it's never normal so definitely worth a vet check. Hope piggy's okay! :)

Are either contagious?

Yes both a contagious to piggies, some fungal can be contagious to people too so always practice safe hygiene when handling piggies with potential fungal issues just in case :)

How many piggies have you got? :)

I agree, it definitely needs vet confirmation and diagnosis before treating on-spec, but it looks like a fungal infection to me.

It does look fungal, usual symptoms are hair loss, flaky/crusty skin, and itching. An antifungal cream can clear it up. Side effects of not treating it right away are that it will progress to cover more of the body, with more affected skin and hair loss, and pigs can cause injury and secondary infection scratching and biting at itchy areas. Some forms of fungal infections (i.e. ringworm) are contagious to humans, so practice good handwashing and get it seen by a vet.

Ha Cavy you took the words outta my mouth. Possibly fungal & you should always have, 2 piggys.Doesn't matter how much you love your piggy, they need another piggy, to chat piggy talk to, each other. Let us know what the vet says!
