So this morning I had Cali sitting in her cuddle cup on my lap while I watched the news and ate breakfast. I was feeding her veggies, but she ate them all and then started eating the cloth tag inside the cuddle cup! It was about 3 cm by 3 cm, and she ate it all before I noticed her pull off the final piece and eat it. I put Cali in her cage, without the cuddle cup, and started frantically researching what to do. Guinealynx had a really good section on pigs eating non food items, and then I remembered the forum. So I logged in here. I'm honestly torn on whether I should go to work and get her into the vet this afternoon, just rush her to the emergency vet now, or take her to work with me so I can monitor her(I have done this before, I work at a elementary school and the kids just love her and hearing stories about her) or say home and shove critical care down her. What should I do?!?!

First of all, don't panic! It is unlikely that this cloth tag will do her any lasting harm. I've had guinea pigs eating all sorts of ribbons etc with no ill effects. Watch her poops tonight for any sign of trouble, but as long as she is eating, and acting and pooping normally I think she'll be fine.

First try not to panic! There has been plenty of stories of piggies who have eaten things that aren't necessarily good for them. My boy Mo (ginger piggy in my profile picture) ate most of a plastic carrier bag that he'd pulled through the bars and I didn't notice till the morning- he'd been munching away through the night I suspect! Like you I panicked and in fact I think I also made a thread. All I advise is keeping an eye on her. If you notice that she stops eating or toileting then I advise a vet visit but apart from that I would make sure she is still eating and keep an eye on her. X

Piggies have a habit of eating things they shouldn't we have had issues with cloth and plastic in past... As others have said above with great advice - it should cause no issue hopefully, just keep an eye on poo output

Contraband... I like that
Yes! But did they really mean the word Contraband or did the IPad decide on that word! Just posted Urticaria via IPads decision rather than URTI for respiratory infection!
Sometimes I read posts and have to try and work out what has actually been the story as some of the words don’t make sense!

Haha I'm glad she is doing well! My pigs have definitely eaten some weird things before... but they always seem like they don't notice lol. I agree with everyone else, just watch their poops :D
