Hi guys n gals. I'm new here but don't know where else to turn. So yesterday we moved home. My pigs stayed at my mum's while all the moving took place so that they didn't get to stressed. My dad checked them this morning and they were both fine happy piggies. Then two hours later he went to get them ready to come to their new home and unfortantly one of our babies lost his little life. Now we really don't know what to do. Do we leave it a before we introduce a new pig as our remaining pig will be on his own in a new place or do we go and get him a friend straight away. We both work full time and don't want our little guy on his own.... please help!

Hi, I am so sorry for your loss. It's very sad. I'm not experienced enough to advise you properly I'm afraid ( I'm learning all sorts of stuff myself) but there are many threads/ posts you can read on here about guinea pigs in mourning and introducing a friend/bonding. Hope that helps. Xx

So sorry for your loss.

I think it depends what the Guinea pig died of. If it was something contagious then you may need to quarantine your remaining piggie for 2/3 weeks before introducing a New Guinea pig. However if it was not contagious then I think it’s whenever your remaining piggie is eating and drinking normally.

I'm so sorry for your loss :soz: I agree it would be worth making sure your guineas didn't have anything contagious before finding another companion for your remaining Piggie - maybe a vet check ?

Are you near any rescues on our vet locator ? some rescues offer a " dating " service to help you find a compatible companion .

oh I am so sorry for your loss, how devastating for you. I hope your remaining piggy is coping ok with the loss of his friend x

What a shock for you, you can get a PM if you want to, although I believe they are expensive. It's so frustrating. Are they normally kept indoors?
I'm sorry that it is this, which has bought you to our friendly forum, hopefully you will stay.

Thank you for all your kind words. We know it was not contagious as they went for a check up and their nails to be cut 3 days ago and both got a clean bit of health. Thank you for all your advice.

Get a new friend straight away because it could get lonely bored and maybe depressed and this could cause not eating or even death I know it's hard but it's for the piggies sake.
