I have 3 Guinea pig's. 4 weeks ago i put my GP in the run, when the good weather started, and one of them lost some hair at rump and now has scratch behind his neck and it is now bleeding.

Again Suggestions?

It sounds like mites.You will need to go the vet to get some Ivermectin as this is the only thing that will get rid of them.

Put some Calendula ointment or Aloe Vera gel,on the sore.
 
yes, go to the vet. my guineapigs had th esame thing....my mum put the vets trip off for months even though they needed it and it only got worse.....mum tried everything...we took them to the vet today(finally) and was gving some mite treatment. go to the vet asap.... trust me.... goodluck ;D ;D

I can't see how it would be mites, as the others would have them, This has been on going for the past few weeks
 
Hi,
Mites are not really contagious from pig to pig, so one can have them and the others not. All pigs are born with mites but the mites only become "active" when your pig is stressed or feeling under the weather. I have a group of 5 pigs and about 6 months ago Biter got mites but none of the others were affected. Its definatly worth a trip to the vets and even if its not mites the vet will be able to tell you what it is. Mites are very serious and very painful for the pig, it is suprising how quickly they can go down hill once the mites take hold.

It was the same when i treated all 10 of mine for mites a while back and only 3 of those had scabs 1 had a really big open sore that i'm still treating now!
 
would definately take your piggy to the vet, if it is mites or not your vet will be able to tell you O0 welcome to the forums from us in oz :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: hoping things get better for your fur baby, sending hugs and healing vibes :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
 
just one pig can get them if you have a heard, just keep an eye on the others too just in case.

mine have had mites before. i had a pair of boars living together, and only 1 boar had mites, the other didnt, so it could still be mites even if only 1 pig has it
