I'm worried. This few days is the first time Boston have been alone all his life since he's born. I got him neutered Friday, and I think he's lost a lot of weights because he's more shy now that he's got no more friends.

I checked his teeth, and he's still eating, but not as much. Now I put him in my girls' cage with a grid in-between for them to interact and apparently he's happy! No longer sulking!

But I can't keep him with the girls yet as there might still be sperms on him no? :(
 
Yes sadly Boston will have to remain seperate from the girls for i think around 6 weeks if I'm right as there may still be active sperm. He will come to terms with being by himself with the girls next door, but he will be much happier in the comming weeks.
 
I was advised 6wks from op to introduction... Ive heard some rescues suggest at least 4-5wks - a week is a tad too early - plus at this point in time i would think it's better to let him recover from his op in peace rather than being plonked in to a cage with a herd of girls - he's still got them right next door and can touch/smell/see and talk to them, so you should find he'll be much happier.

Plus in a few weeks they'll all be that used to one another the introductions should go without a hitch :))
 
I'm so worried, should I be maybe cornering him in one corner of my girls' setup so he can see them everyday?
 
I am sorry to hear that Boston is not well.

I would rather suspect an infection/post op complications as the reason for his weight loss. Hywel's problems started similarly and we, too, suspected at first that it was the move to living next to the girls that was a possible cause - but in fact it was the beginnings of an infection.

Have him seen by a vet as soon as you can. I used azithromycin as an antibiotic with Hywel; it is a strong last ditch antibiotic that can help especially with abscesses and infections in the body.

Please weigh him daily, check his privates and the area around them daily or even twice daily. If he is losing weight, please start hand feeding him; the quicker you act, the better his chances of making it and the higher you can keep the body mass, the more fight he'll have in him.

I think you got me wrong Wiebke.

Boston starts sulking after his brothers left him - I've never placed him near any females until yesterday with a grid in between, he brightens up immediately.

I weight him today and he's grown a gram!

Glynis - Thanks! He's eating and as I drain away and refill the bottle daily, I can tell how much they're drinking and yes, he's drinking, eating his foods etc too.

Good news! I am glad that it was just the fact that he was alone and away from other piggies; I hadn't realised that.

Loss of appetite and weight an weight is often the first sign that there is a problem in the making with post op neutering complications, so that sprang to my mind immediately. I hope that Boston will pick up now that he has company next door!
