Hi everyone,

I'm going to be straight to the point. I'm really very concerned about one of my pigs. For about a week now he has has these relatively large, often raw and slightly bleeding sores on him :... I took him to the vet as soon as I noticed them and she prescribed me Adovcate for kittens and small cats up to 4kg, for mites. She told me to apply 0.07ml once monthly to both of them. And I have done. But there seems to be no change. It has been about a week and a half since I applied it and some of the scabs on my boy still seem to be quite raw.

What do I do?! Am I just being impatient and need to wait a bit longer for it to work? I haven't seen them scratching anymore than usual but the sores are still there. Helppp!

Thankyou guys.

Hi sorry about your poorly piggies, I have very little experience but hopefully someone will come along soon!

I'd say another vet and another opinion.

I believe Advocate is for fleas/worms..? So I'm guessing your vet made a diagnosis of lice? The stuff does not kill mites (according to Guinea Lynx ) and won't help with fungal problems, either of which could be what they're suffering from, so you need a better diagnosis, I think. I haven't heard of lice causing those kinds of sores, and the Advocate won't help with anything else, to my knowledge.

I'm definitely no expert, though; I would just advocate a second veterinary opinion. Definitely don't just wait; if it's mites it could be fatal.
