Ive had my piggies to vets 3/4 times now as concerned about there fur/skin that they might have mites/lice.

Vet has said they show signs of neither, went online showed us what to look out for, fair enough. We did however decide to treat them against both or one of them via meds for 14 days (both) to double make sure nothing wrong, plus bathing them in johnsons shampoo.

Problems ive had, little black specks on my brown/black piggy looks like dandruff, also area around (just above) bottom back bone not to explain like a clump of stuff that i managed to fully get rid of, no longer there.
However some other stuff is now on her fur

on this thread shows piggy same as mine with same looking problem.

I'm just so confused as been to vets number of times, theyve been brilliant.

thank you

Sorry, won't let me edit...

That sounds like the secretions from the grease gland - explained a bit more here: http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?p=914307#post914307

How long have you had your piggies? You referred to the piggy in question as "her" - as the above thread says, the grease gland is particularly active in males (resulting in the deposits on the skin) - are your piggies correctly sexed?

Hi

thank you for the reply.
No i really cant remember what it was called mallethead
Sure only giving them 0.3ml per day it was deffo for mites or lice.

Never even knew they had grease gland! Some bits on her fur is in bigger clumps. I will have look on that website.

My piggies turned 3 in august, had them since couple months old.
I'm 100% sure they are both girls :) I have 2 males also, certainly not the same.
I'll get a picture up tomorrow.

Ah if you've had them 3 years, and no babies, I guess you're safe ;)

Yeah, haha!

Worth trying any of gorgeous guinea pig products?

I use their products and I think they're very good.

Could you find out from the vet what the medication you used was?

Also, what's their diet like - dandruff can be a sign of vit C deficiency.

Yes i can find out that information.

I feed them alot of different foods, avoiding all things bad that I'm aware of.
