He was neutered yesterday, all went well and he ate as soon as he came round. Lots of pee and poop last night, still peeing today but only 2 poops since this morning. Do I syringe feed at this point or do I wait and see? The vet nurse seemed unconcerned when I rang but I don't trust her as much as I do the people on the forum. Please help :(

Should have said apart from the not pooping he seems fine, has eaten and is still very active and curious.

I think Duke did this too. Do you have any pain relief for him incase it's that as whatever he was given yesterday will have worn off.

Mork stopped eating day 2 - that was pain related too but he was the first I had done and I wasn't told to give pain relief.

If he's eating that's great - maybe he's afraid to expel?

How much has Henry eaten since his op? They lack of poos is probably just due to that and I wouldn't worry about it too much; it's not uncommon at all after an operation. It may take a day or two to get his guts moving again fully.

Weigh him daily (but accept a variation of about 30g as normal; more you should have an eye on).

If Henry shows any signs of being in pain, you can give him children's nurafen from pharmacy, uo to 0.2 ml twice daily.

He was eating normally last night but not as much today, I have gone and picked him some grass which he wolfed down, ate all his veggies but no pellets and not that much hay. Should I get him some Calpol?

I would - it's likely to be pain related. GA's are horrible for anyone and stitches.

If he's happy on his grass and veg I wouldn't worry too much today - get some pain relief down him, then tomorrow if he's still not into the pellets start syringing them but wait until his pain relief is working before handling him too much obviously.

You can ring your vet and ask for metacam tomorrow no doubt - I wouldn't say you have been giving calpol or calprofen though. My vet looked at me like I was silly when I said I had.

I would think the calprofen would be better as its ibuprofen and that's an anti inflammatory.

Thanks so much x>>

Couldn't get Calprofen at this time of night but have given him some Calpol. We have had 3 poops in the last half hour so I can only wait and see. I'll hold off syringing until tomorrow, although hopefully it won't be neccessary by then.

Still not much poop so will be syringe feeding Science Recovery once it has cooled down :(

how's his eating?

Can you ask your vet for metacam for him today?

GAs themselves seems to upset some pigs tums, could just be a bit of an accumulative effect, catching up with him so to speak. Agree on the pain relief, better to be sure. As Lisa asked, how is he eating, and how's his weight? Is he eating his veggies?

Mork needed syringing for 2 days and then he started doing it himself. Sure it was the GA upset him. Cy had one (my OH) at Christmas and he was a right mess for 2 days with nausea and wouldn't eat. But after 2 days the effects seem to ease. Syringe him, keep his possible pain under control and then he will help himself in a day or 2. His system is all higgledy piggledy. Try not to worry too much honey.

When I read that I thought it applied to your OH as well. :))

His appetite does seem better today than yesterday but he's still very jumpy. Will get to the vets for Metacam today. Overnight and since veggies we have had 8 poops.

Oops I syringed MORK, not Cy. Cy just slept on the sofa and complained. Mork at least was quiet. Much better patient than Cy. :(|)

Just cleaned out his cage and we have had a very pinky red pee. He's on the floor until he does another so I can take him back to the vet :((

On the plus side we've just had a pooping frenzy.

Hopefully it's just a blip and he'll start getting back on track, good idea to check in with the vet though. xx

He's finally had another pee and it's completely normal, still pooping so are we through the worst or should I take him back to the vet?

What do you feel you should do? Go with your instincts. If you think you're ok to wait and just see how he goes, then do. If you'd feel happier having the vet check him over, then do.

Well my hand was well and truly forced! The close door lock jammed shut so I have been stuck in the house all day.

Wasn't able to syringe feed him as the vet had given me 2ml syringes instead of 1ml mallethead He had his Calpol and since then has been pooping up a storm, wee is all the right colour and he is back to his chirpy self. His appetite is back with a vengeance, so far a big bowl of veggies, 8 Burgess pellets (yes I counted :))) and lots of hay. I think we are over the worst so will keep a vigilant eye on him but try not to be too neurotic, although for me that will be very hard :p

His wound is looking fine too, so fingers crossed.

Having a sneaky check at work and was so glad to see this post. Sending healing wheeks x

Great update Elle.

For what it is worth, Kingslie's playing this game today, very few poops but his appetite, movement etc, is all normal. Timing of Kingslie's post-neuter lack of poop ties in with when Henry's set in too, can't for the life of me think if it happened with my others though.

I shall keep my fingers crossed for your Kingslie too Laura, our poor wee lads do like to worry us.

Thanks Elle, how is Henry today?

Kingslie is fine now, poops are back, he just decided for half a day he'd keep his cage clean and tidy. rolleyes

Maybe it can be a triple wedding! Kingslie and Saffron, Henry and Maisie and Poppy, and Duke and Dolly!

Food for thought there.......

Poor Henry sounds like a right tart, Kingslie and Duke only get one wife each but he wants two all to himself :))

He is good today, I woke up to lots of poop and he was wheeking very loudly for his morning veggies :) I don't want to count my chickens but am feeling optimistic.

Great news about Kingslie too Laura :)
