You sound like are doing everything that can be done. What are you using to clean it? Swarfega is supposed to be good but I've never tried it. The other thing I used was vaseline
Hehe, Yeah I have snipped away the hair in the area as it was really clogged and sticky :{ but I am going to get some sharp little scissors to really clear the hair away.
I mean are boys grease spots suppose to be icky like that?
Boars grease glands are yucky, and I've noticed they are worse when the boars are within sniffing distance of sows.I don't cut the hair when it gets icky I rub and loosen with olive oil then apply GG shampoo and do a quick bot rinse
The only one to cause me any problems with the grease gland is Twinkle. My other five boars are all fine and they share a shed with the sows. Very odd, perhaps my other 5 aren't as randy? |)
Rocky's is awful (Rocky is a girl) and doesn't like me fiddling with it at all. I too had wondered why it was suggeted to use vaseline/ olive oil on a grease gland, but I have never had a problem with this till now, so didn't know what was best.
Odd as it may sound the olive oil really does loosen the hard grease you then add the neat shampoo before water so as no barrier has been formed and then the whole mess just rinses away
I wouldn't worry Louise I'm not and I have had many boars here (fosters and my own) and only one out of 13 boars have had an over productive grease gland.
Bertie used to have quite a sticky grease gland and when I gave him a bath i'd use swarfega and leave it for a couple of mins and then used a nice soft baby's toothbrush to rub it in and clear the grease - it used to clean him up a treat
