Herbs?

Hi guys,

I'm just basically here to ask what herbs are safe for my piggies. They're nuts on curled parsley but as a bit of a gardener with herb boxes and veg patches I was wondering are there any other herbs I can grow that my piggies might like? Also is there any problems feeding them to small piggies (around eight weeks old) cos' I'll be piggy sitting for a friend soon?!

i feed mine: parlsey, basil, dill and coriander. you can feed mint and i beleive thyme to but mine dont like them.

be careful with chives though as these are part of the onion family (they can eat them but not very often)

I think pretty most herbs are fine, although they might not like all of them.... mine absolutely love: parsley, coriander, basil, mint, thyme, oregano, dill.

Just tried Nibbles with some fresh coriander and he loved it. He's now eating my jacket zip as I type this to get my attention. A demanding bundle of adorableness!

Would you please provide the reference that says it is Ok for guinea pigs to eat chives. Personally I have always been under the impression you should NEVER feed your piggies chives, onions, garlic or leeks (or any other bulb) because they contain certain chemicals that cause destruction of piggy red blood cells.

We have had number of threads recently asking about these various plants (and in particular garlic becuase of its well known antibacterial and anti-fungal properties in humans) My reply to all of them has been do NOT!

I'm sorry if you feel I am challenging you, but last year we had two very sudden and unexplained deaths that in my opinion "could" have been linked to the piggies having been fed leeks the previous week and I would hate for people to read this thread and think it's OK to feed chives without proper references to back it up

My lot like all herbs... I have tried them on Thyme and they have eaten that, which I was surprised about. |)
