Here's hoping Orson behaves!

Okay so it's been 6 days since he had the snip. I have kept him upstairs in his cage and blocked it off so he couldn't use the ramp or go downstairs.

Orson is VERY feisty and before his op he spent alot of time grabbing hold of the bars with his teeth and trying to rip them out - seriously he must be going out of his mind with testosterone. So he was barred upstairs for a while.

Today I gave him back the ramp and downstairs so here's hoping he behaves!

If he does start yanking the bars like mad do you think he could hurt himself (stitches) after 6 days?

So far he's had a few nibbles at the bars and all the girls have come to say hello (I think they missed him)

Aw, poor Orson! I can offer no advice on the op front but he sounds like a right little character.

Good that the girls have missed him too

Has he had his post op check up? Can't give you any definative advice as it's been years since I dealt with a newly done boar. I'd just see how he goes and if he starts ragging on the bars check his undercarrage and maybe give him some extra away time.

I don't think he'll seriously hurt his wounds, but keep a look on him!

Yep had his post op check and its all looking really good.

He's been signed off his metacam and seems very very normal.

I'm still changing his bedding every day and keeping a close eye - I just hope he stays not yanking at the bars (seriously he makes the bars move)

Yes fine - he's up and down the ramp - very pleased to have full use of his cage back. He's till not yanking the bars like he used to. Going to be cleaning him out in a mo and checking his stitches again.

He's being a good boy!

What are you going to do for the next 5 weeks?

It is my belief/ understanding that after being desexed he cant be put with his girls for another 5 weeks

I waited 4 and a half weeks for my last one. Guinea lynx recommends 3 to 4 weeks.

As it stands he's okay living side by side with them. Hes certainly not lonely, he has lots of space and is happy enough. he's even started taming a little and considering he was so wild from his start in life I think that's ace. So I think he'll be fine where he is for the next month or so. Once he's been past 2 weeks I wont worry so much about his stitches and the force of him pulling the bars. But like I say he hasn't done that so far since getting his downstairs back.

Oh... little testosteron-ridden Orson! Those girls are gonna hate him in the beginning It's a good thing there are so many of them! I hope his stitches hold up and that he doesn't break his teeth on the cage bars in frustration
