Hey! wondering where and what you put your piggies in?

Hi there! where do you put your guinea pigs and what in?
As in where do I keep them?

My two boars occupy my bedroom actually😂 right by the side of my bed. I frequent there so at least they have company and I can monitor them both for any illnesses -something I guess would be harder to spot if they lived outside. Both are kept in a cage with a plastic bottom and wire top. Ideally I’d love a C and C cage in the future. But at the moment with my 2 dogs and layout of the house, I cannot yet safely do so.

My two boys live in an 8ft x 6ft shed, and have free roam. There is also a hutch in the shed but they don’t get locked into it except during the winter

If you look at the top of this section of the forum there are sticky threads with examples of members indoor cages as well as shed set ups that you might like to take s look at

My piggies live in the kitchen in a cage with a plastic bottom and a wire top which is sat on a table to raise them up. At the moment since everyone's at home all the time they are out on the kitchen floor pretty much all day though. I'd like to get a c&c cage in the future.

they all sound so nice and cosy!
thanks for sharing how you keep your piggies.
We keep our 2 guinea pigs (our Abyssinian Aegir,1 year and a few days, Norse god of the sea and Balder,6 years old,Norse god of Light and Purity, all other gods praise him for being so beautiful)
in a secure 4ft x 3ft birdcage lying down in our garden, we cover them up with a tarp and shade cloth at night, they get a tunnel and boxes to run around and play in.
we pick them grass in our garden and give them Loquat leaves and Bamboo leaves and sometimes grain when we are holding them because if we give it at night the rats come.
they used to live in two A frame hutches with a dug out tunnel under the cages at the end of our garden but very sadly Balder's brothers (Loki Norse god of Trickery and Bear) got caught in August 2019 by a fox. 😢 😢 😢 it was because Balder was the timid, nervous, shy and fast and all the rest that he survived, but it must have been a very traumatic experience.
a few days later
we got Tyr Norse god of War and Aegir Norse god of the Sea from Gumtree, someone bought to female guinea pigs from a pet shop and they were pregnant (they said they were brothers but we still don't know, their marking colours are quite different but both their base colours are black), so yeah, we separated them for a few weeks but we had to introduce them, so we did it and it went pretty good.
we were keeping our guinea pigs on our balcony for a month or two but then setup the birdcage, sadly on the thirteenth of April (the day after Easter sunday, Tim Brooke Taylor also sadly died on that day) Tyr died probably from congenital heart disease.
R.I.P Bear, Loki, Tyr, Jupiter and Thor.

I’m curious as to what you mean by a bird cage lying down and how you’ve made that suitable for piggies?

I keep my four in a 2 storey 6ft x 2ft Chartwell Hutch in the garage. Betsy and Dennis live at the top and Christian and Meg live at the bottom. When the weather is nice they go outside in their runs everyday. When the weather isn't nice they go in the run in the garage and take it in turns every other day as my garage isn't large enough for 2 runs, a hutch, all their stuff, 3 bikes and all the usual junk you have in a garage!

great! sounds fantastic, i bet your piggies love it! 🐹 🐹 😄😄
Yep they do love it. Before we moved they were outside piggies. When we moved I insisted they went in the garage as there is no way the OH would agree to have them in the house. I love it too as it means I don't have to go out in the rain to feed them/clean them out.

Thor R.I.P, died at age of 5, Thor had a brother but he died at a young age because of congenital heart disease too.

Tyr 13th April 2020 R.I.P, died of congenital heart disease, we thought he might have had bumble foot so we were doing warm water foot soaks with salt.
his old owners that we bought him off named him "Checkers" but that didn't suit him at all.

So sorry you’ve lost some of your piggies
RIP Little ones x
My two girls are in a Ferplast Plaza 200 cm x 60 cm and when I get my boy Ted home we will join another 100 cm Ferplast Plaza cage to it via a ramp. Ted has not been bonded yet to his future wives but met for sofa time. Because of lock down he has been lodging at TEAS furryfriends a charity that looks after piggies with special needs and dental problems. This way he can be near his vet for conscious dentals. We live 300 miles from his vet so travelling has been difficult over this time.He will be coming home next month, 🤞
