Hey! i'm new around here and i'd like to introduce my pig Alfie

018.jpg

I'm embarressed to say that he is FAT.
He is now on a serious diet and is not happy about it.
What sort of weight should they be?

What kind of weight is he?

Great to meet you anyway!

Is Alfie a lone pig? He's very handsome from your photo!

hi alfie looks so sweet does he have a friend, welcome to the sight, good luck with the diet alfie ;)

He's so cute!

Did the vet say he was? Most piggies look very fat but are fine, they just have big bellies, totally normal. :) But if he's over 1500g then maybe he is . . . some pigs are just big though so hard to know.

Hi. Alfie looks gorgeous!
I always think my Lexi looks fat, but she's just big bellied lol.

Welcome!

Anything between 800 and 1500 g can be a normal guinea pig weight. It's like asking what's a normal weight for a person, it depends on the piggy's age and build :)

He is gorgeous, 2 of mine are huge too. Welcome to the forum.

hey welcome. hes gorgeous. my two boars are a bit chubby too!

Wow! lots of replies.

He is a lonesome pig as he is so grumpy.. he had to be sold on his own as he would fight with his brothers... we sit with him in the garden and talk to him all the time. We describe him as grumpy uncle Alfie as he makes his ''angry noise'' at silly things like clicking your fingers and hiccups..

He is 1.4 kg so not massively overweight but on the heavier side..

I would love to get him a play friend but I don't know if you can do trial periods...

Hello and welcome to the forum. :)p

Alfie is lovely. It is worth contacting your local rescue as many will let Alfie go along and choose his own friend. Some will offer to help with bonding which may mean Alfie going to stay for a few days but it will be worth it for him to have a friend.
Here is a list of rescues.

If you are concerned about his weight you might find this thread useful, but he may just be a big boy!
