hi I'm new! and i have some questions!

:-\do they make the whole appartment stink?

:Pdo they make a lot of noise at night?

i don't mean to think bad stuff about guinea pigs...
just curious. i actually think they're really sweet animals and thinking of buying one :).
i know, i know...they will get bored if isn't housed in pairs. but my best friend will also buy
one (the sister of my future cavy) and let them play when we have time.
and ofcourse we won't proceed if they fight. i hope you can answer my questions. thanks!

P.S. i will also buy a female to avoid breeding.

I really think a guinea pig should have a friend 24/7 not just when you have time. Don't buy one if you can't get 2 that will live with each other, it's not fair on the piggie to give it a friend for a while then take it away :-\

About there noise making, my guinea pigs wherem't moved in the garden for no reason, lol. Guinea pigs sqeak ALOT, when they want food, attention or for no reason at all, mine got put in the garden for waking my dad up during the night before he goes to work ;D ;D

I would say they dn't really stink if there cleaned enough, i cleaned mine twice a week to stop any smell, if i leave it any later then yes they do smell.

hi thanks for the answers but i think you misunderstood me....
when we have time, she could bring her guinea pig here for a few hours with her to play and after playing she can go home with her guinea pig or me to go there with my guinea and so on.....
but she or i won't leave our guinea pigs.

and i'm glad they won't stink much but i don't have a garden to put my guinea pig when they're really noisy...
do some guinea pigs not make noise at night or at all except when necessary? because the one i held in a pet shop wasn't squeeking...

The two guinea pigs should live together all the time. If you are in the UK this is also a recommendation of the nrew Animal Welfare Bill. They need company when they choose, not when you do :)

Welcome to the forum :)

i don't live in the uk
and they might stink and not much space..... :'( :'(

You should always have two living together, to be honest, if youre going to get one, its just as easy to keep two and they will be so much happier so youll have a more loving pet :smitten: Its not just them having someone to play with once in a while, they need company for instance when youre out, when youre in bed etc.

As for them smelling, they are def one of the least smelly animals you can get! ;D

Cat x 0:)

Not really, mine arent that noisy, I used to keep them in my bedroom and they didnt bother me, you just have to love them thats all, and be prepared for all they come with, but again, i really wouldnt have just one, its not fair :-\

ok ok....
i don't know if my mom would let me have two but can you tell me the minimum size of the cage for 2 piggies?
oh and you said you used to keep them in your room, so what would be the reason that made you take them out?

yes " does mean inches.

welcome to the forum!

If I remember correctly the minimum size for 2 piggies is 4ft by 2ft (hope I've got that right).
Even if you stay with your piggie while they go to visit your friend and her piggie, it will be hard for the piggies to get used to having a friend there and then being taken away from them again.
It is recommended that piggies live together all the time. I think the only exception is if you get a male piggie that just simply does not tolerate other piggies at all (after having been introduced to various piggies first)

Mine don't smell as long as you clean them out regularly. And mine don't make a lot of noise either, my oldest is a laid back chilled dude. My youngest makes more noise, he can be really loud but I wouldn't say he wheeks all the time and certainly wouldn't keep me awake at night.

Research a fair bit if you can before you decide to buy a guinea pig.

Very well put, you have a way with words ;)

are bin cages ok for guinea pigs as long as they are big enough? because here in hong kong, pet store guinea pig cages cost $200 which is about 14 pounds and one of the site said bin cages are begginer guinea pig cages.

bin cage picture
but i'd get a bigger one for them

please don't shout at me if bin cages aren't good for guinea pigs... :(
because if it is't good, i didn't know that :(

don't know about the bin cage but as far as noise goes piggie noises are great and it's actually really nice to hea them squeaking around. mine doesn't make any noise (that i can hear) at night, but when i come downstairs in the morning i make a squeaking noise and he does it back :D :smitten: it's really lovely.
my asbo is on his own at the moment as my other piggie wayne dies :'( i take him out of the cage at least 5 times a day for cuddles, and am hoping to get another soon - only because when i go back to work he will be lonely again. also when wayne was alive they used to squeak to each other - so seriously the noise is great

Hello and welcome!
Haven't got much to add, apart from that my piggies are less noisy when they are together. They live together all the time, but if, even for a few minutes, one of them is left alone then the noise level definitely goes up!
Otherwise, I'd definitely agree that pigiges are some of the least smelly animals going. (And their slight piggie smell is one of my favourite smells going anyway!) :smitten:
I really wouldn't recommend a piggie kept alone, it should be the last resort to keep them by themselves, not the norm.

I think the bin would not have enough ventilation for piggies and they could get overheated and die quickly from that. There is a lot to consider when thinking about getting guinea pigs, but well done for asking first :)
I have 4 and they live in my living room in large c + c cages. I have 2 brothers living together in a 6 ft x 2.5 ft cage and 2 living seperately in 4 ft x 2 ft cages. The 2 brothers do laps round and round the cage which is cute to watch but can be noisy. They often play at night time as well as my daughter says "they have a party in the middle of the night". She comes in late from a night out and noticed this ;D Mine wheek a lot when they see me in the kitchen or when a bag rustles as they think they are getting fed. As I have boars, they can be a bit smelly but cleaning the cage out regularly helps with this.
You also have to think about cost of food (they need fresh veg twice a day, pellet food and unlimited hay) and possible vets bills, which can be very expensive.
Also as has been said, they need company all the time of their own kind or they wont be happy. If 2 females are bonded and then one taken away and brought back etc, they could end up falling out :)
