Ok so i am the proud owner of 3 guinea pigs, yes i do breed and no I'm not a guinea pig mill/ mean breeder O.O.

I live in New Zealand and there are a higher demand for them here, but i do have a Step mum who belongs to a rescue so if ever there are rescue pigs i would adopt.

My girl Caramel has been pregnant awhile now and is now HUGE acually MASSIVE! and her babys are kicking so much you can see them moving. I think her pelvic bones have seperated but i am not 100% sure as i dont know what that would look like.

Can somebody help me, I'm a first time breeder and wouldnt know what to see, and I'm sure i wouldnt want to be feeling around the wrong area she would definitely not appreciate that ") Help would be so awesome :D

Ok

Thanks guys I'm really sorry for breaking forum rules i was dying to know about it thats all i didnt come on for breeding advice it was for the pregnancy advice :O
I hope she does have a safe birth though :)

Hopefully i will Rescue a pig soon aswell, there is a petshop here that is really bad and a poor pig was there that was on its own in a tiny cage and it just looked sick. I wanted to buy it and bring it back to get back to health I'm never going to that petshop again accept to rescue the poor pigs that end up there.

Buying sick pigs from pet shops may be tempting (to "save" them) but it is not a good idea in the long term as it encourages that shop to continue their poor practices in order to keep getting your money! Is there an animal welfare charity in your country you could contact? Or could you report the shop to your local licensing body (here it would be the local council)

If you want to rescue a piggy, try to find a reputable small animal rescue or charity that does adoptions.

Unfortunately the poor piggies end up in rubbish pet shops because people breed them and sell them. You mention that there is a high demand in your country for them. Perhaps rather than creating more unwanted pigs you could point anyone who asks towards the nearest rescue where I'm sure they will find plenty of piggies that have been checked over by an experienced person. Just a thought.

I would like to add my 10p worth to this thread too...

And shoot me down if you find this offensive - but if you have no experience with pregnant pigs, why on earth are you breeding? It is dangerous for the sow and the unborn babies, and quite frankly irresponsible.

I hope for the sake of your sow and her pups, that all goes well. Please seek advice from appropriate forums for feeding/birthing and post birth advice.

Good luck

OK I'm understanding I'm getting a lot of hate here, I'm sorry...and i will leave as i don't want to upset anyone, there is next to no Guinea pigs in the rescue.
I'm 15 i give whatever i can to my piggy's i really do take care of them and i wish i could prove that but i guess i don't really have to now.
New Zealand is so different and if it was really as bad as it is for everyone i wouldn't be breeding. I love guinea pigs like everyone else on here and i know you guys are only caring for there well being so we don't see any more homeless and if i could help any that were homeless i would but there literally isn't any here right now. The odd one comes in about once every month or two and there are almost no breeders in my part of the country. Pet shops don't even have many coming from there horrible breeders. I don't plan to be a "Breeder" I never did. I appreciate everyone's comments and points of view, i wish i wasn't hated like this as I'm not as bad as made out to be. If i lived in a place with rescues as bad Hell yes i would rescue like everyone here but things seem to be ok here.

In england there are plenty of piggies in rescue centres, but in new zealand that might not be the case....please do not feel the need to leave, we dont have a problem with breeders asking for advice on here, its just against the forum rules to actually talk about the breeding.
Unfortunately I dont have experience with pregnancy so I cant really help with that matter. I hope the birth goes well for mummy pig and all the babies :)
Although I do echo what another forum member said, maybe you should have read up a bit more about the pregnancy first...

Hate is a very strong word, and its not hate that you are experiencing.

Its frustration. On this forum we see so many heartbreaking stories of pigs dying through irresponsible breeding, sows having one pregnancy after another, babies dying, rescues full to bursting. Its an endless situation, and it frustrates us all.

I was going to say that but didn't want a ton of bricks on me from other members -c

It's not that you're hated, it's just a very controversial subject on this forum when many of us have rescued pigs, and also some run rescues too, so you are sort of stepping into the lions lair here!

Don't feel bad that there are hardly any pigs in your country, I'm actually glad there isn't because they don't need to be bred for any reason logically possible in my opinion. It saves another country being over-populated with them because there was a 'market' for them being bred to begin with, because PEOPLE wanted to, and now tons are stuck in rescue up and down the country thanks to those lovely individuals (yes that was sarcasm.)

If you don't plan to be a breeder, even a 'hobby' breeder, then just let your girl have her pup/s and allow her to live her life carefree as your pet, hoping she and her pup/s make it through the pregnancy ok.

Sorry you seem to have got off to a bad start here, we are a friendly bunch though so you're more than welcome to stay to chat about piggies in other respects :)

On the other hand........ If England was a place of very few piggies, and rescues were few and far between because there were next to no breeders, I would be happy to see the occasional litter turn up now and again for the sake of people wanting piggies. I would also admire the responsible attitude of an 'occasional' breeder that looked to forums for help. New Zealand appears to have a shortfall of available piggies. If we banned breeding piggies all together, what would we all do in ten years time when all our piggies have crossed the bridge. I for one would have a very large void in my life.

May the Gods help anyone from Peru, Bolivia or Ecuador that might venture onto this furum.

I agree with your point dindy pig. But my objection is to the lack of knowledge and preperation that is apparent. :)

I totally agree Connie.....If someone is going to purposely impregnate a pig then they should be knowledgeable in the welfare of that sow and her pups.

As admirable as it is this young lady coming on here for advice, she clearly doesnt have the experience to deal with this situation. That, I'm afraid is irresponsible which ever way you look at it.

Everyone is entitled to have pigs as pets, they are entitiled to do what they want with them, but at least arm yourself with the knowledge you need to care for them properly.

Thank you, i really do love my girl and dont plan for her to get pregnant I'm super scared for her, i hope she will be ok that goes for the pups aswell!
I hate how guinea pigs are over populated in some places especially when they are dumped because they arnt "baby's" any more that seems to be the worst of problems here, so they don't come in often unwell.

It would be terrible for no guinea pigs to be in New Zealand or anywhere else, as said it wasnt on purpose as it sounded. I'm such an idiot and I'm really worried for my girl. If something goes wrong i would be so upset.
