Hello all just wanted to say hi and ask a few questions if thats ok?
Will just give you some back ground on me there is me and my daughter and we have rescue greyhounds and 3 rescue rabbits 1 we have had for 5 years she was rescued from terrible conditions and 2 i had from some one who could no longer look after them all 3 were never handled from a young age and it has taken some time to win them round.I have been considering rescuing a guinea pig or 2 for a while now but having never kept them not sure what to expect really i was hoping to be able to keep them indoors upstairs so they can have cuddles at bed time but was unsure if they are happy to live indoors i do have a out door run they could go in in nice weather in the day.If i was to keep them indoors what size would i need to 2 guinea's in so they had plenty or room they would be out and about on the evening and like i said in the day if the weather is nice they can be out doors. hope you dont mind the questions

Welcome to the forum, can I please see photos of your greyhounds (as well as your piggies and rabbits)? O0

But anyway; it is fine to keep piggies inside - look on here: http://www.cavycages.com as there is a good size guide on there, and piggies are social animals so apprecriate company so two is a good idea.

Hi & welcome Gypsie :)

Ask as many questions as you like there are plenty of people here with lots of experience with piggies who are always happy to help. O0

As Cashmincal says, piggies are social so it is always best to keep two rather then one. My two piggy boys live indoors as do many peoples. As indoor piggies they get used to people quicker because they see & hear you more then if they were outdoors. Out in the run is great for them in good weather.

They can take quite a while to gain confidence in people as they are naturally prey animals, but they love being cuddled & make great pets :smitten:

Hi there Gypsie

welcome well i have been the same as i only got my first ones on Sunday. I have been asking loads of questions and i am really glad that there is people here that can and will help.

I really appreciate all the advise that i have been given. I have bought 2 boars and i keep them indoors too but i was going to keep them up in the bedroom too but we decided that it would be better in the living room as we spend more time in here than in the bedrooms.

I have always wanted to get one and now that i have i am really glad that i have. They take alot of patience and attention like all animals. I would advise you to try a shelter as most of them have been tamed and need extra TLC. I bought mine from a pets store they seem to be doing well.

when i get some clear photos i will put them on here

Take care

Terry-Ann

Hiya and welcome!

My two boys live indoors and they are perfectly happy to do so - I think you get more out of your pets that way and they tend to get used to you a lot quicker too.

A 4' x 2' cage I think is the minimum advised for 2 piggies living together. Would they be in a bedroom? They can be active a lot of the time and mine perk up very late at night - so they might be a bit too noisy for a bedroom.

No question is too silly so please don't be afraid to ask! You're in a forum filled with friendly helpful piggie people! ;D

P.S. Would love to see photos of the buns and greyhounds, too! O0

Hi Everyone thanks for all the hello's thing have been a mad at home so has taken me a while to answer but i have been doing some reading on keeping gp and have found it all very interesting the one thing i havent found out is hold old they can live too. Also can any one recommend some books to read as i really want to learn as much as i can and cant always get to the internet so i will have to do it the old fashion way by reading a book, if any one has any books they have finished with i would be very happy to buy them from you or make a donation to a gp charity.
i am not ready just yet to rehome a new gp but am in the process of moving the bedroom round to make room for them and sorting a hutch out for them, but i did a silly thing and had a look at gp rehoming and fell for 2 little girls call caramac and humbug they are being looked after by a rescue called corn flower cavies i am sure they have found a home by now but what sweeties thay are.
i have attched some pictures of my buns for you the white one is flopsey she can be moody but likes to be talked to the brown one is sugar she is a mixed Rex and the white and brown is spice she is part boy and part girl and a little bit mad but sweet when the mood takes her they were all rescued.

Hellooooo *waving*

Lovely buns you've got there! ;D (the rabbits I mean!) They're all lovely girls... especially Sugar.. the first one. She's stunning! :D

Would DEFINATELY recommend Peter Gurney's book - the one Sian has a link too. Bought it before I got my pigs so I knew what to expect. Its fab O0 Good basic background to all things piggy!
