thought i'd tell everyone about my little baby Hugo Nosh-a-lot

i've had him for 5 months now and stumbled upon him by chance!, i'd gone to buy a rabbit from a lady by my house and when i got there i noticed a cardboard box on her table outside with a little guinea pig in it, i asked why he was in there and was told that she used to have lots but got rid of them and he was the last one left they couldnt "shift" cause he had a lame leg :( she said they didnt know what to do with him.. so me being me said i'd have him .. never ever thought of having a guinea pig before at all but i felt so sorry for this poor little thing ..

after i got him home looked at him leg i called the vets and they got him in first thing in the morning they kept him in did x rays and said they didnt know if he would make it .. on pins all day waiting for the call then it finally came and i could pick him up, no breaks but they couldn't find out what it was they put him on baytril for a week and it seemed to do nothing .. then 3 weeks after he finally started to use his leg and he's become so friendly he's the best thing to ever happen to me! he's so cheeky and loving and eats for England 'hence the name' nosh-a-lot and thanks to him i've relised how amazing guinea pigs are!

sorry for rambling!, just no one else will listen to me, thought others will have stories like mine and would understand :red

That is so sweet! welcome to our forum :)
I came by first guinea pig in a similar way, I had gone to pick up something from a Freecycle post and this poor piggy was in a box and she said her daughter never bothered with him, so I took him. I had him for 2 happy years and loved him dearly, sadly he passed away last November but he got me hooked on guinea pigs :))

i already feel like i need to get him a friend .. but i'm sure he'd eat his new friend out their food too he even sleeps with his head in his food bowl! he never stops, is this normal?:)

Hi and welcome!

He sounds absolutely adorable. I'm glad he's using his leg now, he's lucky you found him!

Welcome to the forum, what a lovely story. I love his name :) Would love to see pictures of him sleeping with his little head in his dish.
Definitely get him a pal, you will be amazed how they come to life and play together. Where abouts are you. There are lots of rescue babies around at the moment. x

Welcome to the forum, and to the wonderful world of the piggie slave! It's great to hear you have fallen in love with your boy, just be warned, guinea pigs are highly addictive!

As Jane said, if you do want to find him a friend which would be a lovely thing to do for him, there are hundreds of uwanted pigs up and down the country in rescues and some will even let you take your boy down with you to choose his own pal :)

Will look forward to hearing more about him and seeing pictures!

Welcome to this forum, Lydia!

What a lovely story! Hugo is so happy in having found you and your love.

I had another guinea pig that fell asleep with her head in her crunchies bowl. She was quite obviously the undernourished baby of an overbred mummy and her obsession with food never left her. Plus she had a voice to match!

If you are thinking of giving Hugo a friend - preferably a very young boar - you can either put a post into the "guinea pig wanted" section (please state your area) or you can have a look on this website to which this forum is attached to: http://www.guineapigrehome.org.uk
The very best way would be, if you could take Hugo to a rescue with several possible candidates for an afternoon of "trying out", so he can make his own choice. Whenever I did that, I never came back with the piggie I'd have chosen, but always with a very happy match! Not all rescues will allow you to come, though.

There are some rescues around here who will rehome further afield, provided you have passed a home check by a local rescue and can organise a pick up.
http://www.sokelguineapigrescue.com operate from Scotland/North West, Honeybunnies from Derbyshire/Leicestershire, fi.cantillon (member on here) from Bristol, and there have been huge rescues in the Telford area (pm alisont) and in the Hants./Suffolk area (pm Sue1974) with lots of pregnant mummies rescued; so no shortage of baby boys looking for a home...

I wish you and lovley Hugo good luck!
