Hi, I'm sort of worried because people say that Ginnie pigs are High Maintance Yet Google and Sophie lived for 9 years, and I didn't find them hard to look after or expensive to keep.
 
they are not high maintenance, if you get into a rota of daily care its alright, and if you buy supplies in the right place and use your own garden for veggies and grass they are not expensive, i think my guinea pigs cost about £20 a month.
 
Oops. :'( I was so stupid, People say never to put ginnie pigs with rabbits and I did. When I was 2 We had a Ginnie pig called sarah, and We had a Rabbit called fart. Yet they lived together fine. They slept together and played together and got along Great! 0:) Yet our dog got hold of Fart, and Sarah was all alone so I took her to a rescue because we didn't want her to be eaten too. :'( Then later on we got google and Sophie.
 
Guinea Pigs can cost quite a bit but you can keep the bills down.

Here's what I spend out.

£4.00 a week on pellets
£1.20 on Hay
£10.00 on Veggies (Sometimes more depends on whats on offer)

I don't have a bedding bill as all my guinea pigs live on fleece. :)
 
With 2 pigs you would easily get away with £5.00 for veg, I have 6 so my veg bill is higher. If you buy hay in bulk it will prove more cost effective but it is storing it. They do need a good quality pellet I use Burgess Exel and it costs £4.00 for a bag which lasts just over a week. Again you can buy bigger bags that are cost effective but I can't carry them with a 2 year old on foot. :D

Is that £1.20 a week on hay? Where do you buy your hay from?I spend a fortune!
 
Yep £1.20 when I changed the pigs over from P@H Pellets (as we don't have a local one) I found a little aquarium shop that stocks Exel and cheap hay the owner only charges £1.20 and it is fab stuff, not dusty at all they love it! Shop around, its amazing what you can find! :)
 
I am going to get Guinea pigs WOO! I'm going to buy a small shed for the garden and Put a little hutch and cut a whole in the shed so they can have a run on the side.

i spend £9.50 a month on bedding (as i get horse sized bales of shavings and hay)
£4.00 on hard feed a month as i give them little bits and i buy a kilo.
ummm i just use veggy left overs from mum etc etc, so thats free
 
I spend

£3.50 hay
£10.00 or so on food
£10 on veg
