I am wondering, is it possible for a guinea pig to get the hic-ups? Oreo had them last night and it freaked her out. They only lasted five minutes but am wondering if they can get them by eating or drinking too fast

Sophie has had hiccups before, she looked really surprised each time and I took her out of her cage and cuddled her, mainly cos like you I wasn't sure she could get them and it may have been something more serious.

I would be interested to know why/if they can get them

xx

It made me laugh because as she was hiccuping she started to try and climb the cage trying to get to me lol. She was so scared. Poor girl

Sophie is quite funny, she just looked really surprised, I wish my guinea pigs liked me enough to run towards me instead of run away!

xx

My Squeaky has had hiccups in the past - a very strange thing to see, isn't it? His only lasted a few minutes, then stopped as suddenly as they started.

My Maisie has had them as well and it terrified me. I think I read somewhere that since they can't be sick, if they get a small bit of food caught up in their throats they hiccup it away. Sounds a bit odd though so not sure how accurate it is! xx

That is quite interesting.

I thought it was quite funny that they get so scared that they would either want mum or to hide, but I guess its how attached they are to us that determines that or it could be the personality

Aww she must love you so much to do that. :rose

I think she had lots of bonding time with me to be able to do that. However she is a total mum's girl. I know if there's a storm and she starts crying I go and get her and she snuggles in bed with me without making a mess (too spoiled?) The other one isn't as bonded yet but is getting there slowly, Bugs will sit right under your chin and talk to you and thats it.

Also both my guinea pigs sneeze once in a while. Its only right after they stuck their heads in the hay rack, is it because they must have had hay tickle their noses? It only happens once in a while though.
