I have noticed lately that Bernie gets the hiccups after eating veg, i have also had a boar in the past get it quite alot aswell. Anyone else noticed this with their guinea pigs? Their body kind of lightly jolts forwards every second, then it stops after around 2 - 3 minutes

It can happen when they eat quick. Some piggies more than others

He has to eat faster than Dot so that she doesnt start on his veg portion after hers
My 2 mini herds have a free for all approach to veg dinner time. When I put it in separate bowls they kept going from bowl to bowl nicking stuff so I decided that one lot of veg thrown in their general direction and the free for all approach was probably best.

Good idea, i have tried this and it failed. Bernie will take from the bowl and then take the chosen piece back to his hut, then keeps travelling back and forth doing the same, Dot sits at the bowl scoffing loads. I might have to train him to eat on his cottage roof 🤣

Hi!

You have a greedy eater who is swallowing air together with the food. ;)

Olaf and Tiana get hiccups a lot after they eat. I thought Olaf was choking or something the first time I saw it.

I wondered for a long time about Scarlet and her hiccups. Seems to be a normal thing for her! Haha I guess it depends on the pig! Just like yours, it goes for a few minutes and stops. Doesn't seem like anything worrisome.

Really enjoyed seeing Sophie's piggies again. I have missed her and her piggies since she left the forum!
O its a forums pigs😁 why did she leave?

Bowls are for humans, not animals! My cat isn't fed from a bowl either! She is fed entirely from puzzle feeders. I do the same as you and scatter one lot of veg around the cage.

I just give veg scattered in two seperate piles each end of the cage so that Bernie gets a chance to eat all of his. Hes the worst at sniffing food out.
