Hello,

I saw strange behaviour from Pip this evening when i was freshening up their cage. Pip was eating her hay and she suddenly started jerking like she was hiccuping but it was more pronounced/jerky. It lasted 10 seconds that’s why I didn’t capture it. She was silent with no coughing/sneezing or any other verbalisations. She is acting normally, running around, eating, drinking and going to the toilet. It’s just odd, I’ve seen hiccuping in them just not like that. I’ve seen videos of other pigs doing similar. So I’m hoping its just something that was caught at the back of her throat.

It scared me to death though, I thought she was having a seizure😭

It sounds like she had ‘heaving hiccups’ which can look scary especially the first time we witness it. She could either have eaten too fast or swallowed too much air. It’s nothing to worry about and looks far scarier to us than it is for them x
Thank you, it totally freaked me out. It was probably eating too fast as she was chomping down on some hay
