Hi, I have been doing a lot of research on guniea pig runs and have seen a large folding run on rabbit.hutches.co.uk which I am hoping to get. I wanted to get a hideaway to go in the run but just wondered if anyone had any recommendations on these? I can get one from the same website which is a box style with a slight ramp up but wondered if anyone had any opinions on these. They looked quite cosy to me!
I haven’t got the guniea pigs yet but just doing lots of research now on runs, hutches, bedding etc. Just so much information and things to think about. Thank you so much.

Those boxes are used successfully by many and are a lovely way to provide somewhere sheltered for them to sit.
Just a couple of things to be aware of though. You ideally need hideys with two exits so that no piggy can get trapped by the other. Of course those boxes are single exit. It may not be an issue after a while (when they are older, more settled and less hormonal) , but when you have new or teenage piggies or will be in a period of establishing their relationship and experiencing high hormone output, there is the risk of such a hidey box potentially being a flash point for trouble. Equally, the piggies you get may not have a problem with them from the start!
Also, multiple items needed at all times - you will need to provide at least two hideys in their run (they don’t have to be the same one though)

Personally, I use wooden hideys in their cage and simply take their hideys from the cage and put them in the run during run time. It has the benefit that all their hideys will still smell like them so the transition from cage to run (particularly when it is the first few times ever or the first few times of the spring/summer season), then they can feel comforted that at least some of the new area still smells like them

Thank you so much for the ideas. I had been looking at the hidies as well.
