hi all long time no see! hope everyone and their piggies are doing well❤️❤️
just wondering if I can get some advice, I’ve been given an opportunity to house my girls in an attic space, however the humidity seems to always be between 70% and 80%. the temperature is perfect (18-22) and there’s opportunity to put a AC unit in in the hotter months, however, I am concerned that the high humidity levels may cause issues. when you are up there it doesn’t feel uncomfortable. It just feels like a normal room however I want to know what issues high humidity can cause and what’s my best bet of lowering it if it is an issue?

I have an oddly humid room when it rains. I throw away hay twice a day for my two boars when it gets humid as the hay starts to feel sticky quite quickly. When hay gets mouldy it is horrible, so I leave a margin for error. Guineas need to be where they have some human company to bring out the best in them. My piggy, Polo, has odd wheezing episodes that coincide with damp weather, so I would say humidity is something to be avoided if possible ❤️

Could you get a dehumidifier?

At that humidity you risk getting mold anyway, so for the sake of the house I would get one anyway and keep it at 45 percent.

70% is the upper end of what they can safely tolerate but only at lower temperatures.
As soon as the temp goes much beyond 22 degrees combined with that humidity it would become a risk factor for heat stroke. Other issues include mold, mildew and respiratory issues.
So a good dehumidifier, plus an air con unit for summer would be essential.
