I have a relatively new piggie Max. I think he was about 4-6 months when I adopted him and it's now two months on. I bonded him with my gentle old man Bubble and they get on like a house on fire, as Bubble is happy to let Max think he's boss (which he is most of the time) and seems to be happy to have a companion after his brother died.

Anyway...I have had them in the living room, as I was keeping them separate, one upstairs and one downstairs, while Max got used to being here. Once I put them together, the popcorning exploits of Max have been a pleasure and a wonder to watch:D:D In some ways just like :bronco:

Well, today he did the biggest jump I have ever seen a piggie do...it was as high as his pigloo, more than twice his own height (standing up) :luv::luv: The thing is, I would have missed it had their cage been upstairs.

I had my first piggies in an outdoor cage in the shed and an indoor one which I used to bring them into when I was around, which was most of the time, so they moved inside. But I moved them out of the living room, and into my bedroom, even though I have a couple of emptier ones, because I wanted to be around them. Now I'm thinking, why don't I have them in the living room all the time so I can watch their antics more often. What are your experiences?

I really ought to do a photoshoot, but that may be beyond my technological skills!

I must add that I have always had my guineas for lap time most of the time when I've been relaxing in the evenings, so I've spent a lot of time with them and that is probably why I haven't felt the need to have their cage downstairs. But by having them out for cuddles for hours (which they love), I've missed observing some their great behaviour.

Ahh, I hear you loud and clear.

When we decided to get guinea pigs I knew they would live outside.
And we would wait to get them until the weather was good enough, so they could go directly outside.

To cut a long story short we actually got our pigs in March, when the weather here was still hitting minus 10 (Celsius!) on many nights.
So I accepted that the piggies needed to be inside for a month or two, and hauled their large outdoor hutch into our living room.

I am about to post about the new C&C I now have to order so they can stay inside on a permanent basis.
Now we have had them in the living room for a couple of months I can't imagine having them anywhere else.

Thanks @Swissgreys

Yesssss, I can see a much bigger cage in the living room - as there's the space. I might have to sneak them upstairs some nights, because I miss them up there......hopeless case aren't i (like most of you )

Thankfully yes, although I still haven't ruled out DH wearing a plastic pig house on his head (aka Devo style) to get one of those over to Switzerland!
Sadly I think DH has actually ruled this out.

If I lived in a house instead of an apartment I still think the best place for my cage would be in the middle of the living areas. I can keep an eye on them and watch their silly antics, I love it! Although I do wish I had a yard to let them have a run in

Yep mine live in the lounge - we have a long thin one - so I have all four (used to be 7 ) of them inside.

That's a great cage! Huge, but I only have (and plan to have) 2. I am being convinced that they should be downstairs. The thing is that there's less need tto have lap time, which is super special to me,

I've just had a special lap time with Max, and he's explained that, much as he likes chatting to himself and me on my chest of am evening , he likes his friend Bubble too and could he live downstairs please. He's a very chatty man - one of the reasons we decided we liked each other.

Of course, his favourite place of all (apart from my chest :D ) is lawn mowing duty (telling them there are foxes about after dark is completely useless)
@Wiebke , and @VikiA how do you get them to hop back into the carrier? I have to chase them around in their large run with a long handled broom after dark.

I think they may be staying downstairs

My girls live in a C & C in our dining room :D I wouldn't have it any other way, I love watching their antics & when they lie down with their chooken legs sticking out hehe :D

Mine are in the hall leading to the family room. My computer is also in the family room and, as I work from home online, I see them all the time (and hear them even more.) I like having them in a high-traffic area. They are really used to people coming and going and to household noise and they get a lot more attention than they would otherwise because the kids will pat them as they walk by, I talk to them when I walk by, and they get taken out and snuggled on the couch quite often. I like having them in an area with lots of people... I figure it's good for them, it keeps an 'out of sight, out of mind' thing from happening with the kids, and I catch weird behavior or subtle signs of illness really early because I see so much of their behavior as I go about my own business.

I have never seen my guinea pigs (diamond & swift) popcorn but I guess that's 1: because I don't have them inside 2: I haven't had them long and 3:I have only cuddled them because swift was naughty enough to jump of my couch and nearly run under it!
