Hi all,

I'm just back from holiday with my wife and we were really glad to see our piggies today after a week :). This was our first holiday since we got our little guys and we both missed them.

As you all know, Biscuit and Caramel had to be treated for ringworm when we first got them because Biscuit had it in his ear. He was given a clean bill of health by his new vet and the old vet before we left but still had a couple of scabs and etc. We noticed today after we got back that his scab on the back of his ear is gone but now there is a little hole right the way through where the scab used to be.

Does anyone know if this is normal after fungal/ringworm infections?

I don't know from the fungal aspect but guinea ears are very thin and it's pretty common for them to get a bit ragged over time. It wouldn't surprise me if the scab had come away to reveal a hole.

It isn't something I've heard of but provided the ear is clean and healthy, I wouldn't worry too much. Maybe worth speaking with the vet though just to be sure the hole is well healed.

Thanks, it doesn't look particularly sore and Biscuit is acting like his normal self so I don't think he's in any pain. I think I will give the vet a call on Monday just to be sure - I don't want him to have to be treated for ringworm again, the poor little guy was on ringworm treatment and anti-biotics for the first few weeks after mving in with us :(

can't help about the fungal/ringworm issue but want to reassure you that holey ears don't seem to be a problem for my rescue piggie Marty. He has terribly torn and holey ears but is a perfectly contented boy now, even likes to have his ears stroked drool

Thanks everyone.

The ear doesn't look sore today but I'm going to make an appointment with the vet any way. I'm just concerned in case his ringworm flares up again - his behaviours is totally normal and friendly so I don't he's in any discomfort or pain.

I'll let you all know what the vet says :)

My latest piggy Hafina has a hole in her ear as well:

@ Wiebke:

Bless her, she looks like she could have a funky earring :)

Biscuit's look a little like that to begin with but the hole was near the edge of his ear and now it has torn through so its kind of a semi-circular cut now :(

Any way, he's ok and I think the ringworm he had when we first got him just ate away his little ear a bit before he finally beat it.

Hi
My Guinea pig buttercup had ring worm on her ear which developed into a hole also, over the next few days the bit that was still in tact around the edge sort of disintergrated and it ended up looking like one of those cuts when they have been fighting and the ear gets cut. she is fine and the ringworm did not come back. xx

Thanks everyone.

You'll all be pleased to know that Biscuit does not have a flare up of the ringworm infection and is a perfectly healthy, if now slightly incomplete, little piggy :)

Personally, I think that wonky ears add to their charm! Hafina was in a bad state when she was dumped in a cardboard box on somebody's doorstep, so I wouldn't put it past her previous owner that she may have had ringworm at some point!

Good that you are rid of the ringworm!

Thanks Wiebke :)

How have you been this week after Ffion?

Biscuits wonky ear certainly adds t his charm - he's kind of mental and a genius at the same time - I mean he's had a chest infection, ringworm and now a gnawed-looking ear but he's still so curious and loving ^)

We were so relived two weeks ago when the vet said the ringworm was all gone, that's why I was a little freaked at first to see the hole but now I know it's not serious it just looks funny
