Hi everyone! So earlier on today I noticed a large scab on one of my female guinea pig’s back, it was very loose so I flicked it off and underneath was lots of a waxy grey substance! One of the weirdest things I’ve ever seen, I cleaned it up and got most of the stuff out of the hole and this is what it looks like now (attached pic). Going to take her to the vets Monday but was wondering if anyone knows what this is?! I’m thinking a burst abscess? She didn’t seem in any pain when I cleaned it so I'm Thinking that just keeping an eye on it and keeping it clean til she goes to the vets will be fine?02E909BD-4B11-4567-A758-19775FB9EDC0.webp

I think your right about the abscess, until the vet visit just keep it clean, although you still need to go to the vet, & see if there's any nasties. Let us know how you get on.

I would be tempted to cut the hair short around the area. And cover it with something bandage like. Until you get to a vet. But i dont know weva thats a good idea or not. Might need air getting to it. And cutting could be risky

We’ve cut some of the hair around it but we thought that maybe the hair acts as some protection to stop anything going in. We also thought about putting some sticky stitches over it to keep it closed but as it looked clean in the first place we thought best not to touch it😩

Sending healing vibes. Just keep it clean, please don't put anything over it as it needs to keep draining until you see the vet so the infection can come out.

Thank you! Today is just the same as yesterday, looking very clean still, won’t put anything on it and will update you all tomorrow! X
