Morning
Need some advice please.
Only had baby guinea pigs for few months now. They are doing amazing.
We have a static caravan so will be taking them with us. I have brought a hutch (second hand) we have done it up, put new roof etc on. It a two level but hasn't got a ladder with it? Any body know where I can get one from as I've looked and can only find an expensive one. I've got a huge hutch at home so this Is alot smaller. Do u think they will be OK? I don't want leave my babies at home while we are away so rather take them.
Any advice be appreciated x

There is a ramp thread on here - I will link it in Ramps in Cages

How big is the holiday hutch? It still needs to meet minimum requirements.
A change in environment can cause an increase in dominance behaviours, so you are likely to see a bit of a change in their behaviour.

What is the minimum requirements?
Oh do you think so. It so difficult to know what to do. What do you do when you go on holiday?

120x60cm for sows and 150x60 for boars. When we’ve gone away in the past I put the boys in boarding. I don’t know that they’re open again with current circumstances though.

Siikibam has given you the size requirements. Don’t forget that being a two storey does not increase the available space. It is only the bottom level of the cage which counts as their total cage size (upper levels are bonus spaces only)

A change in environment will sometimes cause them to be more dominant while they sort themselves out again in a new space. It shouldn’t be anything to worry about though or cause them any issues if they are well bonded. I just wanted to make you aware that you may see them being more dominant than normal. It can help if you take their soiled bedding with you to put in their holiday hutch as that can mean that it immediately smells of them and makes them feel more settled.

We don’t have holidays, we have our own business so haven’t had a holiday in 20 years.

We have a pet sitter come into our home when we go away.
This is not cheap but it means everything stays the same for all of our animals, plus she empties the post box, waters the plants and generally keeps an eye on things.
I know that @karonus take their guinea pigs caravaning with them, so I have tagged them and maybe they will have some advice.

Piggies usually travel quite well from my experience. I’d take them for a short half hour drive in your pet carrier and see how they react. Provided the cage is secure (padlock it when you are out for the day) and sited north/north west facing then they won’t boil in the sun (I’m assuming you are in the U.K.) You would need to work out where the sun is during the day in another country. Piggies can show more dominance when habitat is changed but you would get that in boarding too
