I am possibly going on holiday in May, I am going to a stay in a cottage. It will take about 5 hours to get there. I really want to take all the Guinea pigs but there are only pets allowed :soz: I really want to take Darcy as she is really special to me and I don't think I could cope a whole week without her :)) Could I take Darcy on her own or would she need another piggie to go with her? :))

I would say leave them at home. You will miss them but they would be happier without the long journey to a strange new place, and for such a short time. Could you get someone to visit and feed them etc?

The five hour journey would be really stressful for them and then don't forget the 5 hour journey on the way back too. I know you will miss them all terribly but they really would be happier at home in a place they know with familiar smells and noises. Have you a neighbour or a trusted friend you can leave strict instructions with? I'm lucky as I have ex piggy breeders over the road who are very good friends and if they are on holiday I have 2 other friends who are within walking distance who I trust to look after my piggies and have do so in the past.

I have taken my piggies on holiday before.i drove to cornwall and that is a 5 1/2 hour journey for myself ! i would say that you need to stop every two hours or more to give them water and food.i leave watery veg in the carrier eg cucumber, lettuce.ensure you have a cage you can set up when at your destination.also remember that all there equipement can take up space. ensure you have a number of a vet that has some experience of guinea pigs prior to going on holiday.my piggies travelled very well. it would maybe be easier if you could find a trusted person to look after your piggies at home !
