So as some of you might remember, the boys and I are taking an impromtu holiday and the date has now been set! We're leaving on Wednesday, since the funeral is Wednesday morning. I won't be going, which means I have all morning to try and convince the pair of them that they're going to love it.

Now, I have a *bit* of a problem. The house where we're going has a room we can have all to ourselves, I've been told. Now, I know they live with two cats. One of these cats is a proper hunter and has taken down wood pigeons before, so I know full well a guinea pig will be no trouble for him. Obviously this means I need to work doubly hard to make sure he can't get at them. Dogs are easy to stop from going through a door, but cats I'm not quite so sure on. Is there anything I can do to make the door less inviting? I mean I figure if I can make the door uninviting, I can hopefully make behind the door uninviting too, without causing too much trouble for the actual regular residents of the household.

Meanwhile the boys aren't speaking to me anyway. My bedroom door needed replacing earlier and that meant they had to listen to the evil drill and sander, AND they had to listen to it more than once. This is clearly my fault for breaking my bedroom door in the first place. Sigh. Comet has shown his displeasure by managing to "move" a carrot cottage well away from where it was this afternoon. I get the impression it was a very violent tantrum, from the state of my floor :(

Cats are always very curios about what is behind a closed door and are very good at sneaking in quickly. I think you will just need to be super careful and make sure your piggies' cage is very secure:)

Perhaps spraying a cat deterrent spray around the doorway or on a cloth on the floor just inside the door would keep them out?
Alternatively the "Cat World " website says cats find the smell of lavender and pennyroyal (among other things) unpleasant, so maybe something smelling of those near the door would deter cats from coming in. The only thing to think about with those though is that air fresheners may not be good for piggies either :(
Hope you find an answer that works and you all have a safe trip!

I could always find some actual lavender if I could stop the greedy sods trying to eat it in the first place.
