My first lot of lettuces were ready to harvest today, so they had two lots of home grown mizuna! The feeling of giving them something I've grown myself is fantastic, the food is as fresh as it can be.

Pruning the lettuces down revealed more than just mizuna growing - there are five different types of lettuce there but the mizuna was so big it covered the rest. Least I can get a keep an eye on how they are doing now I've thinned out the mizuna.

Hey laura, they looooook fannntastic. You're definately green fingered and I'm sure the herd are appreciative...even though they were too busy scoffing their faces at the time. How are your carrots doing...mine are hardly growing?:^-

Thank you. :)

The lettuces have come up brilliant, they're the easiest and quickest to grow...I sowed everything in the wooden planter on 1 May, so it's only just over a month for the mizuna to reach the stage where it can be picked and fed. The other lettuces do have a long way to go though.

Carrots are doing ok Lil, but it did take a good 4 weeks before any shoots came up. They are slow growing. I'm only growing the carrots for the green tops. :))

That is cool, you're doing better than me defo. Carrots aren't doing great, where's Percy Thrower when you need him....oops showing my age now. Darn it, illusion over!:x

I might have to come during the dark of night and pinch themrolleyes

You shall have the wrath of 15 piggies to face if you dare........................

That's a scary prospect, remember Harry lies in wait:

You should be scared!

It's official I snort when I laugh very loudly.....much to my hubby's amusement. I so love that pigture, talk about "I just dare you" stare....love it.

Well since the Ninja pig isn't feeling very well I have no other secret agent pigs so I'll stay at home on my comfy sofa. Yeah okay, I'm scared. ")

I'm excited for you just thinking of the future prospects of your little cabbage patch now that the lettuce has come up well :D

I wonder if I could grow cucumber?
I'd actually save myself a small fortune!

Instead of feeding cabbages, broccoli and some spinach that i grew myself i went on a thieving patch out of the inlaws to be.... Tango was a very happy contented piggy! I may have to steal some to take home for my pigglies :)

we've been eating our home-grown lettuces for about a month now... We bought mixed baby leaf which has proved great for all of us! we like the rocket and red lettuce when the boys enjoy kale and that weird-tasting lettuce with red veins... We also planted endives which I 'pluck' so they don't grow too big and stay fresh... we share these with the boys...

Wow! They look great Laura! Sure the piggies all enjoyed their dinner tonight!

I'm reallyjealous I have nothing to feed my girls yet. Carrots are taking forever zzz

Been growing my cut and come again lettuce in pots in the greehouse whilst I wait for my veg planters to be installed - shed had to go in first! - they are now in so I am hoping to get out sowing this weekend.:)

Your gang made short work of all your efforts Laura, looks like they really enjoyed their home grown dinner!:))

I would make a reference to Felicity Kendall and The Good Life but I expect all you spring chicks would have absolutely no idea what I was on about! :(

Anyway it all looks fabulous. A labour of love but very rewarding for both you and your piggies:)

Just wondering, are all of the BBC salad leaves suitable for piggy consumption or is it only some varieties?

Off topic, I know, but how is Frankie's eye doing? In that photo it looks better than it was and it just reminded me.

:)) I loved The Good Life. I wanted to be like Barbara when I grew up (but without Tom).

Ok, no idea on The Good Life (had a think but sorry!).

Frankie's eye is ok thanks Susan, I need to get an up to date picture. It's still a touch sunken but otherwise fine, lumps all gone and no need to visit Vedra at all, despite the initial panic!

All the BBC salad leaves are fine for guins. I think the salad seeds contain red chard, spinach, oak leaf, romaine and mizuna....at least, that is what has grown from my seeds. :))
