Can anyone explain this ?

2 days ago, our neighbour kindly gave us a cucumber from her greenhouse. We didn't really need it as I had just bought on in ASDA BUT these 2 cucumbers were kept in the fridge together and the guinea pigs have had a few slices of each.

This morning, I have had to throw the neighbours cucumber away as it was getting soft . The ASDA one however, is still looking fresh and usable. Why is this ?

I can't be one hundred percent sure but possible something to do with what's pumped into them when they are grown? Not sure, my home grown veg seems fine, perhaps this cucumber was already started to turn and not picked in time?

My home grown stuff is usually fine but she might have picked it too late.

However, any veg bought in supermarkets will have been pumped with stuff to make them look better and last longer.
