I was getting a little concerned about my girls in the shed - whether they are warm enough e.t.c they get snuggle safe's etc and a thermostatic heater bags of hay & cardboard boxes with blankets over the top etc. The shed is insulated too. But as a neurotic cavy slave I wanted more for my girls!
So after threatening to spend a small fortune on a ceramic reptile heat lamp at our local reptile store my OH (unbeknown to me) has made me a heat over lamp. He was a precision engineer and now runs a company who deal with the technical & manual side of the Music business & has 50 staff - so he does know what he's doing 8)
The only time I had an suspucion that he was doing something was when he brought a BIG cake tin. To cut a long story short its a tin suspended above the girls favourite area with a bulb in it which heats the tin and the tin radiated the heat. Its been PAP tested (what ever that is?) its on a timer and circuit breaker also has an operating indicator to see if its working _ & the girls ADORE it. He's got some kind of cable protection so they cant bite it - there's no way they can get to it anyway.
It has really given me peace of mind when its cold outside and I can see the girls through the shed window basking in the heat. I was worried initially about them burning on it but he had got it to a temperature where that won't happen.
Just when I was about to ditch him he does this! he must have known.....!
