I would like some advise from you knowledgable folk, before I continue any further with my quest for Guinea pigs.
I have an area in my garden that I'd like to use as the Guinea pig area, and I'm hoping my husband will be able to build me something suitable. Ideally I'd one area that is suitable all year round, rather than moving them summer and winter.
Would it be possible to build a 4/5 feet by 4 feet accommodation (not a hutch, more a Wendy house/kennel) that is insulated and possibly heated, with a large covered run, which could be used all year?
Any advice welcome.

Many thanks

Well , the more room the better - bu I am not sure how easy something 4 ft ×4 ( or even 5 ) will be to clean - you may have difficulty reaching in .

I think a lot of people on here have sheds that have a hutch or some from of contained cage in, and then they can open the doors and allow the guinea pigs outside. Depending on the weather the guinea pigs can have free range space either on the floor of the shed, or in a covered run which is joined on to the shed (or in the case of a few people - I am looking @BossHogg here - they have a totally secure garden which they let their pigs loose in).

Lots of options, but I do think having a decent covered area like a shed with cages in gives you a lot of flexibility, plus the ability to clean everything and contain the guinea pigs when necessary.
Maybe take a look at the gallery of outdoor hutches for inspiration.

Thanks for you replies.
Really want to find out if as long as it is insulated, will they be warm enough in winter? And if anyone has any heater recommendations that would be great.

This is sort of what I'm thinking, but not quite.

Also, what are the benefits to having a hutch within a shed, rather than having the run of the shed? Extra warmth?

I have thermal insulation between the walls of the hutch and the shed for extra warmth. They still have 6 x 6 to play in. ;)

The benefits for me to having hutches in the shed are that when it gets really hot in the summer I can open the door and they are still safe from all of the cats that live round my house (including my own who is scared of them).
