Hi, so my piggy Coco has another abcess. I kinda felt a small bump before, but wasn't sure if it was an abcess. I've been keeping an eye on it, and it has gotten much bigger. He has also lost weight. With this whole coronavirus thing, I don't know if any nearby vets are open. Is there anything I can do for him at home?

are you from the UK? most vets here are open to some extent, try calling around a few of your local vets. Even if it's not your usual piggie savvy vet any vet is better than no vet at the moment. no one on this forum can diagnose without a hands on examination only your vet can do that. some people may have some advice on keeping him as healthy as possible until you can see a vet but your piggie may need surgery so please try to see a vet.

Hi!

Please ring round and see which vets are open. Any abscess, especially one at the runaway stage, needs to be taken seriously. If it is close to the skin, it will need lancing, having the opening stitched open and then flushing with a mild antiseptic like saline solution twice daily in combination with an antibiotic.
COVID-19 - Vet visits/emergencies during coronavirus/Covid-19 lockdown

Abscesses make pouches and need to heal from the inside out. Any little speck of infection left in one of the pouches can cause the abscess to eventually come back worse than ever. :(

@Sweet Potato No, I don't live in UK I'm in Florida. I haven't checked our vet yet, but all businesses other than medical stuff and grocery stores are supposed to be closed. i will check our vet soon, I just didn't want to risk anything if there was a way we help him at home.

@Wiebke Definitely taking it seriously. I will ring around for a vet. I will definitely keep a good eye on it, hopefully we can catch it in time.

You could help help you by adding your state to location in your account details (accessed via clicking on your username). This makes it appear with every post you make and allows us to tailor any advice with just a quick glance to the left to what is relevant and available where you are, from vet access, medical brand names (which vary greatly from country to country) to climate and general background, which can also vary quite a bit. We jump between lots of different threads in a day; it saves both parties time and misunderstandings/confusion.
