Honest Opinions Please. Neutering Or Rehome?

Just got to decide if I want the boys in a different room to the girls.
A pair of boars that are properly bonded should be fine to keep in the same room as sows. just make sure their cage is higher up or a distance away so that no girly scented bits of hay, etc get into the boys accommodation and always handle the boars before handling the sows.

My piggies have their own special shed, I have some pairs of boars and some groupings of a neutered boar with one or more sows. They are all very happy with this arrangement and if occasionally a boar pair do react to other nearby pigs it is always a reaction to hearing other boars rumble strutting and not to anything that is going on with the girls.

I have 2 boars Buddy and Peanut. Buddy can be quite grumpy at times. I have them in a 6x2 C&c. I recently started fostering for a Guinea pig rescue and my first fosters are a pair of baby sows they were 3 weeks old and 5 weeks old. And a single baby Boar (to be paired up once a suitable friend is found, as he's so so tiny) I put them in their cages on a table which was lower than the boars table. My 2 boars (well mainly Buddy) started posturing and teeth chattering at each other. To the point of almost fighting. Needless to say the sows were promptly removed from the room. Which almost instantly calmed buddy down. Mind you Buddy is really highly strung and regularly chatters at me if I try to pick him up or don't feed him quick enough. Lol.

Argh, It's tricky because I really haven't got room to house the males in another room, not now I've set up a sewing machine lol.

Maybe I should stick to the neutering idea. I suppose little Emmett wouldn't feel too lonely as he will be in a sectioned off part of the C&C until his castration and will still be able to interact with the girls.

Still thinking it all over.

I would go with the neutering plan if it was me. Less guineapigs and no risk of intact males and females meeting! As you say he will be close neighbours so still able to interact through the grids.

As I said earlier have Emmett neutered. That's what I did with Christian and Dennis. I had no room for another hutch. You'll have to wait until Emmett's testicles have descended at around 6 months and then keep him separated at least another 6 weeks (I left 9 just to make sure) and the bond him with the girlies. If they are used to him hanging around and his smell you shouldn't have too much trouble(?!)

So I have finally decided that Emmett will be neutered. I'm building the C&C cage this week, as soon as everything arrives. It will be 8x2 grids and to begin with the girls will have 5x2 and Emmett will have 3x2 sectioned off to himself.

I did contact Furry friends via my daughter's FB but that was ages ago and I've not had a reply. I wanted to know which vet they use. I will try to contact them another way.

I popped into my local vet today, out of interest but the vet their doesn't castrate guinea pigs and wont do it (at least she was honest) but did recommend another vet who does loads of them, so I might contact them next. Got a while yet so plenty of time to search for a good vet.
