Today OH was complaining about the amount of hay there is to get rid of. I use it as bedding as well as for my piggies to eat. I have had piggies 4 years now and he has only just realised! So in an effort to reduce the 4 bin bags of hay a week produced by my piggies, I suggested I lined the hutch with fleece liners which would then have to be washed once a week. He said he didn't want the piggy washing to go in the washing machine. I replied that I did that already and the washing went in a horse bag to protect the machine from hay. He said still didn't like the idea. So on the one hand he all of a sudden doesn't like the amount of hay produced but he doesn't want me to do anything about it! I shall work on him on the fleece liners for the hutch. The piggies are in the garage now so it doesn't get very cold in the winter.

Really 😬 I would just do the fleece liners. You’re already washing piggy laundry in there 🤷🏾‍♀️

Absolutely, trouble is I can't sew and alot of the places that make them are closed atm due to the Coronavirus.

My husband has a thing about 'the dirty piggy snugglepad covers and fleece tunnels going in the same washing machine that our clothes go in'. But I wash mine in those mesh laundry bags you can get and I've never found hair or hay or shavings in my washing machine filter. And, it's not like I wash them AT THE SAME TIME as human things, because I only use minimal detergent and no fabric softener with the piggy items.

I don't remember him complaining half this much when I had to wash baby clothes that had poo on them (many years ago now). And you should see and smell the state of his work overalls he gives me to wash every week too! 😳

Have had a quote for 4 fleece liners for the hutch it is around £85 from CandE Cosies. The OH has agreed that I can order them which is good I have been working on the fleece liner aspect. I am just awaiting the answer to a couple of questions and then I'll order them.

👍 That's good news, glad you were able to find someone to make you some liners.
Do you use your two levels as separate cages, so you don't need to account for the gap for the ramp? I finally put together my new Chartwell this week, and I'm trying to decide what to use on the floors. Fleece probably won't work for me in the top half, as the ramp will be in use, I am wondering what the alternatives are :hmm:

Yes I do use the two levels as separate cages. I have done ever since I split the herd. I don't think I'll ever be able to open it up again. Could you not get/make/purchase a fleece with a gap for the ramp as long as you measure correctly?

I have a few fleece liners for my piggies' hutch, some corner forest hideys, and some lap pads from @CandECosies and I love them! The absorbent layer is Zorb so it's also a plus. Elaine is so accommodating with my requests for custom sizes. 👍

This post made me laugh as I am having exactly the same problem with my husband and have used the same arguments as you! He always complains about the wood shavings and hay piling up in the garage. So like you I suggested we used fleece instead, he said he didn’t want it washed in the washing machine as It might ‘contaminate’ our clothes! As you said, I reminded him of all the baby and child sick, wee and poo that’s been though our machine, but no, for some reason guinea pigs are worse! 😂 I can’t win!

MEN! So observant and so tolerant where something happens to get in the way of their own comfort...

I can't offer you a swap as my own model isn't any better, just even more outdated (has refused an update in attitude for the last half century or so)!
