Today Honey finally decided she was ready to give birth.

She had two beautiful babies, one bright ginger and dark agouti, the other blackish dark agouti kind of colour.

Little gingery one was doing well, wandering about, found mum's teats etc.

But Little Blackie, as we christened her (we think it was a her) not so good...she tried to move but was shaky, her back legs seemed wrong, Honey tried and tried but eventually gave up.

I rang my wonderful vet who said bring them straight in, my amazing OH risked points on his license to pick us up and dash us down there. But sadly we weren't fast enough, and Little Blackie passed on the way.

We have brought her home and she will be laid to rest next to Bubbles, my first ever guinea who I still miss to this day.

The other little one is doing well, wandering about with mum, has been to say hello to Whiskey and Noodles who are literally noses to the grill but they were a bit scary for her, and tried a bit of hay but didn't like it much! Bit too early to tell properly but the vet thinks she may well be a girl too, so we are going for this at the moment and will reasses next week. Mum is also doing well.

My first words as I left the vets in floods of tears were 'We are NEVER doing this again, why do people do this, how can they go through this again and again then advertise them on preloved for a fiver'

Popcorn free on Rainbow Bridge Little Blackie, I am so sorry I never got to know you

RIP Blackie. I am very sorry for your loss, but also very glad that Honey and little ginger piggie are doing well.

Popcorn free little Blackie, sometimes it isn't ment to be. I am however so very glad that the other baby and mum are healthy! xx

Thank you all. We too are glad one baby survived and Honey made it through, the vet was quite amazed that she gave birth to two quite large babies without issue to herself, so we are incredibly glad we still have her and the other bubby.

I will take some pics tomorrow, tonight they are being left in peace.

oooh cant wait to see the pics, well done Honey, glad shes ok.

So sorry about Blackie, rip baby, sleep well xxxxx

I am glad that Honey and your remaining pup are doing well, but so sad for your loss. It is always so gutting to see a little one stumble into life only to leave it again.

RIP Little Blackie!

So sorry that one didn't make it, but it's so great that the mum and the other baby are doing well :)

I'm sorry to hear about Blackie and I wish ginger all the best and glad their both doing well :)

At least now Honey wont have to go through this again. Its heartbreaking when a new life comes in to the world and they try so hard. Luckily Blackie didnt suffer and now at peace. No doubt you had anger and saddness mixed into one. When this happens at the rescue it doesnt get easier, you just get crosser and sadder.

I am so sorry to hear about Blackie and I'm crying as I type this. It really got me. I'm pleased mum and baby are doing ok. I hate how some people can treat their animals. Thank goodness for rescues x

I'm so glad Honey is okay and the remaining pup is well...cant wait for pigtures.

so sorry to hear about little blackie though, goodnight little one x

Congratulations on the safe arrival of little Ginger-pig. Very sorry to hear her sister didn't make it

Sleep will little Blackie x x

Don't worry I guessed :)

This is exactly why I think I took it so hard...it just sums up all the things that drive me mental about guinea pig mis-care.

I will admit, I considered breeding once, thought aww cute little babies wouldn't it be lovely! But just five minutes of googling and even less time on rescue websites made me realise how stupid and irresponsible it would be. Guinea pigs are amazing whether 5 minutes old or 5 years old, and I would rather take in every older guinea pig I can than put a poor little girl (Honey is only about 3 months old herself) through this again.

In nicer news, Ginger Baby is doing really well, investigating the hutch, she has been eating hay and had a go at some nuggets earlier! I cleaned all the others out today and was chatting away to Honey and baby all the time and baby is already getting so confident.

We are thinking Poppy if she is a girl and maybe Tiger if she is in fact a boy. She is such a deep orange ginger, so beautiful :) if a girl her and Honey will move in with JoJo together, if a boy he will move in with JoJo alone. JoJo is now a year old so by the time little one hits hormones, Jo should be past them and hopefully they will stay happy together.
