Not mentioned properly before but Honey has been backwards and forwards to the vets for a while now with what we thought was pneumonia. After no change whatsoever on the anti-biotics we started looking at other avenues.

Yesterday with the help of my cavy savy vet and rodentologist Honey had an x-ray and further examination and it is about 99% likely that she is a heart pig. Not at all surprised as she was showing all the same signs as Nigel but worse. She is on diuretics and will start heart meds shortly to see how she goes. At least I know what I am doing now after the last few months with Nigel.

Poor baby, am really worried about her though, she is so so lethargic.

BIG HUG

I am so sorry! It is always so gutting when you have been through the wars with one piggy only to turn around for another one of yours to have the same! At least, you know this time what you can do, and I am sure that Honey is getting the best, loving care she can!

Sending her my vibes!

Thanks Wiebke. The vet was amazed that we had 2 with the same issue but we think Nigel's heart may have been damaged by the recurrent URIs whereas Honey is a congenital heart pig. Also she is further on as she had hidden the symptoms so well. When she starts booting the other pigs out of the hay kitchen again I'll be happy.

Hopefully, she'll just go and do that when her meds kick in! ;)

Thank you, she is suffering a bit today in the heat, poor thing.

She is on Frusemide (diuretic) at the moment and will start on Prilenal (in addition) shortly once we have given the vet an update in a few days. Nigel is on Prilenal too and the difference has been amazing. He's a different pig now.

HEALING WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEKY LOVES FOR DEAR HONEY XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Oh dear, i'm so sorry to hear Helen :(
It's so hard when they hide things from us, makes it so difficult to get them help quickly :{
BIG HUGS for you XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Thanks Glynis. Hopefully the meds will have the same effect on her as Nigel. He's a little nutter now. Completely trashed his cage yesterday.

awwwwwwwwwww Nigel you little darling x)x)x)
yeah well the fact you've now got the experience you're able to recognise more of the symptoms and act on it!
Loves to you all XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

That's true Glynis, my rodentologist said the same thing :)

BIG HUGS AND HEALING VIBES TO BEAUTIFUL HONEY

Hope she feels better soon xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxoxo

Honey has been a bit brighter over the last day or so, so fingers crossed she'll start to turn a corner once on the heart meds.

That's wonderful news, I think one of mine died of heart failure, apart from diuretics I was never told they could go on heart meds too! Fingers crossed she is getting better :)

great news, if she is anything like Nigel she will be running round driving you crackers in no time...hopefully...x>>

Hugs and lots of best wishes to you and Honey, hope the meds help her!

Thank you.

Doglovingpiggylover, I really do hope she ends up like Nigel, he's so bouncy now. Eating a corn on the cob as we speak.

Right, Honey has been on the heart meds for a few days now and though it's still early days she really does seem a lot brighter. She's moving around more and starting to boot the other pigs out of the hay like she used to. Am happy. I know there will be good days and bad, as there is with Nigel but things are looking better with her :)

Good news Helen....and also really pleased to see Nigel doing so well

x

Glad to know that Nigel is recovering. Let's keep sending good vibes shall we?

Thank you. Both are bright as buttons this morning. Honey was running about waiting for veggies and Nigel almost wheeked for his (he never wheeks). Last night Nigel even decided to launch himself off the top of the hayloft into the rubbish bag :))

Aww, life is just sooo cruel to these little beauties sometimes but Honey sounds as though she has second wind and will be keeping the other piggies on their tiny toes :(|)
It's awful seeing our piggies poorly but to see them recovering makes me feel whole again :))
Well done little one and enjoy being spoiled :x

I'm glad to hear Honey's feeling better since her meds, little head rubs Honey and also for handsome Nigel. x

Helen you must feel so much better that you are seeing an improvement
Hugs to you

Thank you, yes am feeling a lot better now. Don't think Johnny is though as Honey booted him out of the hay earlier just for looking at her :))
