Honey is looking for a friend

Hello! This is Honey's story - can anyone help?
Honey lost her partner Rosie this time last year, her owner (a friend of mine) decided she couldnt look after her anymore and donated her to me to buddy up with my two pigs Cassie and Rodney. My two died this year, Rodney to cancer and Cassie to weight loss (she died before an operation on her teeth was due). I am now looking for a single, preferably female piggie who is on the older side (at least 2-3), Honey is 3-4 or so. They will be outside pigs who go out in a large run in all good weather. I'm living at home but looking for a full-time job so I don't want to leave Honey on her own all day (she often comes in for cuddles!) Preferably not a long-haired pig, neither a Skinny that will get cold out in the elements.

I've been checking my local rescue centres (Bobtails and Millbrook RSCPA) but no luck yet, most pigs for sale are babies.

I went through the rescue centre trawl at the end of last year looking to pair up my single boars (which I managed to do thanks to Glynneath and Palace Rescues - yay!).

Have you tried Crawley Guinea Pig Rescue, Palace Guinea Pig Rescue (also in Crawley) or maybe Wheak & Squeak (which is in Southampton, I think)? They're a little further, but it's worth it if they have a suitable piggie.

Thats ok, it took me agesss to find my way around. :)

Just to let you know, lots of rescues will only rehome to an outdoor hutch in winter, if what they decide are suitable precautions are taken (each rescue has its own opinion of what this is) So just be aware they may ask questions about that.
 
Just to clarify what Connie said, if a rescue has been keeping the pigs indoors it could be fatal to the piggie to go straight to an outdoor hutch which is why questions will be asked about your set up etc. Try speaking with SuzyGPR on here from Glynneath, I know she has a very busy rescue at the moment and maybe there could be a piggy train to get them to you
 
The best way of partnering single adult piggies is by dating them at a rescue to let them choose a new friend of their own liking; I have done this with my own bereaved piggies several times, always with great success. Sows can also be dated with a neutered boar, which gives you even more scope.

However, most reputable rescues insist on suitable winter protection, so you may have to talk over necessary adaptations with the rescues.

Sounds good

Thanks for all the advice. I can set up a small indoor space for my pig in the garage if necessary. Havn't had any problems introducing pigs to outdoors since most I've bought have been reared on farms and in rescue centres that have outdoor accomodation but I'll ask the questions as suggested. Never tried the resuce dating thing! May give it a go.
 
Outdoor protection

I always cover my piggie hutch at night or at dusk not only for winter protection but also predators such as cats and foxes. I usually currently use an old duvet and a couple of blue plastic sheets for waterproofing. Does anyone use similar covers or the shop bought ones?
