I've woken up to find Honey hunched over and puffed up facing the corner this morning. I got her out her cage and she just is not herself. I weighed her and she's down to 786g. After putting her back in the cage whilst I made some CC she didn't move from the spot she chose. She's had some CC now and potentially it's encouraged her to eat herself a little as I put her in the hay box and she was nuzzling around it. I'm fearing the worst as 2/3 passed guinea pigs, I've lost in the new year. I'm getting her into the vets as soon as they open at 9

Fingers crossed for Honey, such a worry especially with it being the holiday season.

I have had many a pig that sounds like honey and after vet treatment they have pulled through so don't lose hope. Let's us know how you get on!

Oh no, I hope they find what’s wrong. Fingers tightly crossed that it’s easily resolved. Good luck at the vets x

Well guys, god knows what happened in the night. Potentially temperatures dropped in my room more than normal overnight so she was focussing on keeping herself warm, she doesn't have much body fat as it is, I guess like an old person, they need additional heating to keep warm. But after giving her just 5ml of CC, and popping her back into her hay box with fresh hay, she was rummaging about the hay and has been eating and in it since. So hopefully she needed some help to get her appetite back. She's even now interacting with me when I go to the cage, and lifting her head up. I have decided to just see how she goes throughout the day, my vets is very good at getting animals in when it needed so if she gets worse again later on I will get her in the vets then. I can't believe the dramatic change from this morning.

Tonight I will leave the electric heater on for them, but keep my bedroom door open for air circulation so we don't all cook in our sleep 😅

Fingers very firmly crossed! Keep an older piggy warm, but not hot and give it a chance to move away from any source of heat if it is overheating.

Please be aware that the immune system in older guinea pigs is rather fragile, as it is in the very old humans. If something is hitting, it will hit very quickly and very hard. The majority of my elderlies end up with a emergency out-of-hours vet trip. :(

She still seems to be doing good. I've been keeping a close eye on her and she's regularly in the hay box munching away, and even been playing with the hay cottage, so she's still very interested in her surroundings, was awful waking up to how she was this morning, I think my quick action with critical definitely made a difference. The electric heater is kept the opposite side of the room to the piggies cage and does not face them directly, so it will be more to keep the air warm than them directly. It doesn't make the room any hotter than it would be during the day when the heating is on. Hopefully it was just a blip from slightly colder temperatures, but I'm ready if veterinary care is needed. Thank you for your response

I’m glad she seems to be doing OK. Maybe she was just sleeping deeply. I have found my Holly (scruffy Abyssinian ) with puffed up fur when she is asleep at times. It’s freaked me out but has proved to be nothing more than her keeping warm.

Potentially but I was concerned with her lack of responsiveness and she didn't even want oats which are her favourite treat! I didn't like how she was facing the wall either :(
