Hi just a little update on honey, as some of you have probably read shes got a URI. She was on 20 units of baytril for four days, i could still hear her breathing so i took her back to the vet again and they upped her dose to 30units for a week, i then contiued the dose for another three days, we the called the vet and he said he would call us back but he never did and it sounded like she was getting better so I just left it and continued to keep an eye on her.

today when i checked on her it sounded bad again so i made another appointment and shes lost weight :'( the vet said to give her 20 units of baytril for another 4 weeks. However I gotta take her back if she loses to much more weight. :'( Any ideas on fattening her up? :'(

If i were you i'd ask the vet for septrin, its a better antibiotic for URI's and shifts them faster. i had one of mine on baytril for 4weeks with no change so swapped to septrin for two weeks and it completely cleared. what do you mean by units? i only know how to work things out in mls. as for fattening her up all you can do is syringe feed her some science selective/critical care/mushed up dried food to help her along but if she isnt eating she needs this shifted quickly! hope she's feeling better soon x

I'm sorry to hear that Honey is feeling poorly. I would agree with Jnenbnb about syringing food or critical care, and also syringe her water hourly so she doesn't dehydrate :) Hope she is well soon.

Thank you,

She is eating but oviously not enough to help her maintain a healthy weight, I will give the syringe think a try, On the syringe it say that its in units but maybe that means mls x :-\

I just been to see honey, breathings the same, I syringed her some water she rejected it at first but then she was ok (I think she thought it was more antibiotics lol ;D) I soaked some pellet food till it was soft and hand fed her about three pieces then she lost interest, so i picked her some fresh grass her and her pal toffee are happily munching on it an the moment :D

I'm glad Honey is eating and taking water from the syringe. Sometimes they just need a bit of tempting with their favourite foods. Another thought was if she was eating fruit/veg run it under the tap so she would get extra water from the little she is eating :)

hoping honey gets better, when you mashed pellets, mix it in pre boiled water and add 1-2 teaspoons of baby food puree like sweetcorn and either syringe feed or feed of a spoon. if you are concerned about honey's breathing it can't hurt to get a second opinion as it sounds like she has been on baytril for an extra long time and i would be concerned about that. also has she been on a probiotic to protect her tummy from the baytril (all antibiotics). antibiotics kill bad and good bugs and causes tummy upsets and soft poops etc so a probiotic protects piggies tummys from the antibiotics. wishing you luck, sending hugs and healing vibes :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Gosh poor little Honey has been thru a lot :'(
I'd get a second opinion...
Best of luck i know how much they hate baytril it's foul smelling and tasting xx0
I hope she accepts your hand feeding, make sure she gets plenty of water as well O0
Healing wheeks and piggie kisses from us :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Thanks everyone, :smitten:

The only problem is its getting really expensive and shes been to three different vets already :-\

sending you and hiney hugs and healing vibes and really hope honey gets better soon :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: perhaps discuss with your vet a payment plan where you pay so much each week? this is what i am doing. hoping all goes well O0 and know we're thinking of you and honey. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
