Hi. Does anyone have any idea why a guinea pig hoots after nebuliser? One of my guinea pigs does this after nebuliser but does not hoot any other time, just after the nebuliser.

Thank you so much.

I just would like to add that i phoned OOH vets and they reckon it is from stress of the nebulising. Just wondered your thoughts? I think i may have read somewhere that if they sound worse it just means that the nebuliser is working but I just wanted to make sure

My understanding has always been that the nebulising is loosening mucus in the airways so is working.

Nebulising doesn’t always help in every case, it can sometimes make things worse and have to be stopped. (Not just that they sound worse as it’s loosening mucus so it’s working - they can sound worse because its causing issues rather than resolving).

You will have to be guided by your vets on what is the case specifically for your piggy.

Thank you all. I have discussed this with the vet this morning and she said to continue. I will do it tonight and keep and eye on him after as I always do.

These past few weeks I have felt I am doing more harm than good to my guinea pigs :( i thought about all these when i adopted them, and i thought i was ready, but i am still caught off guard by the uncertainty of it all!
