I've just started hearing loud hooting coming from the cage. I've watched her for a few hours and she only does this when eating or bending over to scratch herself. I have checked thoroughly; there is no discharge around the eyes and nose, she is very active, eating fine and I can't hear a thing when I listen to her chest. I'm going to try and get to a vet today but how likely is this to be heart related considering there is no other symptoms of a URI? I need to know what to ask the vet, as I fear they won't take my worries seriously. I have a video of the hooting which can be heard clearly, but it won't let me attach it here. I'll post on yt and then link it in another comment.

Guinea pigs have small airways so hay dust can cause irritation. However, it’s not clear from the video. What it sounds like to me is normal chewing with the little chattering noises they make rather than hooting. However, There are limitations when listening to videos though and it will never replace a hands on vet check if you are concerned

Her normal noises can be hear right at the end when she runs away, I've never heard these noises before recently and they sound less vocal and more internal

As I say, if you’re concerned see a vet as it is not possible for us to diagnose and it can be hard to hear exactly what you are hearing when listening to a the video

I always go for a vet check with any concern.
It’s better to be reassured if nothing is wrong than risk missing something

Definitely get a vet check but hopefully this is just a minor respiratory infection, a piggy with a heart problem would probably be less lively and breathing fast and tired all the time, but only a vet can say for sure x

We have an appointment with the vet tomorrow, I'm just a bit stumped as to what it could be. It definitely doesn't sound good (my other pig doesn't make the same noise at all) but I've looked all over and there's no other seriously concerning symptoms. I suppose I was just wondering if anyone else has ever had a case of mysterious hooting noises coming from their pig?

So good news, we saw the vet and checked her chest and also mentioned her gas problems. He's not too worried about her chest; apparently some guinea pigs do just hoot occasionally. He told me to keep an eye on her stomach and make sure she's eating but that a scan wasn't necessary right now considering she's in otherwise good health.
