I got Barry last May, and he was an adult guinea-pig when I got him but I don't know his exact age. He lived with Billy for about a week, but after that Billy wouldn't let Barry in the hutch so they had to be seperated, and Barry has lived alone since. Roy was living with another boar who died last November so I decided to try and introduce them. First I put them in the run and they were fine, they clicked their teeth at each other for a bit but after that they were fine and sat together and ate grass. Today I put them together in the run and they ate grass together but then they sat at opposite ends of the run and wouldn't really go near each other but they didn't fight or anything. I was thinking of putting them together tonight, do you think I should? I was going to put them both in Roy's hutch which is a 2 storey hutch so if they don't get on they can stay on different floors, and I was going to put a food bowl and water bottle on each floor so whatever happens they will both have access to food and water. I was going to go out in a minute and clean out and disenfect Roy's hutch.

Please make sure when you put them in the hutch you stay and watch them for a good while before leaving them on there own.

How long were they in the run for today?

Here is a collection of tips about introductions:

Here is a very good thread about boar behaviour, so you will know the danger signs and act accordingly. Have a towel at the ready if your boys do get into a real fight - you do not want to get bitten hard!

Please notice that once you have committed to an introduction you have to sit it out and let the boys get on with it. Do not separate unless there are bloody fights or days of constant humping or if one of the boars is losing weight. Give your boys time to get used to each other. If they want to sit at the other end then leave them to it. Do not force them together - that is a surefire recipe for disaster! If necessary, leave them in run overnight.

Best of luck!

Thank you :) They've been in the run together since 11am and are still there now. I've been checking on them every few minutes and they're just sitting quietly but still away from each other
